Is it remarkably better than coffee shop ground beans? We’ve stepped up our coffee game, and now we’re just wondering if there’s more juice to be squeezed.

Isn’t it just exactly the same thing?

I think fresh ground coffee makes a big difference in coffee quality so having a burr grinder is worth it to me.

I suppose it would be if you went to the coffee shop every day and had them grind them for immediate use.

Beans are best ground and used immediately.

I think the timing of when you grind is the advantage of having one at home. IDK though. I’m sure it smells nice too. They’re just not attractive.

Then buy one small enough to put up.

To answer your question, yes the burr grinder does not apply heat to the beans and burn the delish coffee bean oils.

Not attractive at all…. But worth every penny. Get you a Baratza, it’s also worth the money.

I think so.

Ground coffee goes stale pretty quickly, and you don't get all those great oils that you get when you freshly grind beans. Ours is fairly small and very quiet.

The motor may wear out a little more quickly depending on how frequently you use it. That being said, we've done a French press pretty much every day for at least 6 years and have only had to replace our burr grinder once.

I have tried tons of coffee, bought a grinder, a French press, a Moka Pot, and I hate to admit it, but this is my favorite

But I don’t regret trying any of the various beans and brew methods, that’s how you find out what you really like.

I bought this grinder 10 yrs ago and paid around $50. Very pleased as it’s still made by Cuisinart

Burr>>>>>>>>blade. Burr runs slower with less heat imparted. A definite improvement. That said, either is superior to mass grinding or the worst, preground by the producer

I have one. No mess. If some grinds get out, wipe with damp cloth.

My side by side comparison says it is definitely worth it. I can taste a difference.

How many of y’all have had a black cup side by side with the same batch of beans?

Everyone just defends the $ they spend on the damn cup of coffee they enjoy.

Really? I keep the Baratza Encore on my counter and haven’t once thought about the aesthetics being a problem. They look about like any other kitchen counter appliance. It’s not like toasters or panini presses are some elegant works of art.

Same, it's only 6 inches wide. Everyone loves the noise, that's the only downside but it's never on for that long.

And it does make some mess, transfers and what not. Also cleaning it isn't the most fun thing ever but it takes me 5 minutes.

Yes, worth it. Entry level: Baratza Encore or Capresso Infinity. I recommend an air tight container for beans too. I use an Airscape 2lbs container.

Edit to add an FYI re: grinders. The Encore cost more but has replaceable/upgradable parts. Capresso isn’t quite as good but it’s a little cheaper. My Capresso has held up well.
