Conical burr grinders are exponentially better than blade grinders.

With the burr you get consistent grind size for however you are brewing .

With the blade you get "dust and boulders" type grind.

Much better coffee brewing result with a burr.

The Technivorm is a blade grinder, only it drops the beans through the grinder once. Gravity fed, but only one pass through the blades…can’t attest to the variation in grain size, but apparently there’re choices in between the old style blades and the newer ones, and there’s a screen to catch the larger grains…though I think the dust is what you don’t want.

If you are getting fresh beans and grinding them as you make a cup/pot, yes worth it. If you aren't getting good beans, then doesn't matter how you grind them.

You know burr grinder's aren't very big, right? I have a capresso that is about 4" x 8" tall. It fits easily in my cabinets.

The one I just bought says 18” tall

It’ll go all the way to the left side of our counter top, so it shouldn’t be a big deal. 8 x 11 x 18 isn’t a tiny appliance.

Well i guess if you get that big thing then yeah, you'll need some counter space.

That, and I plan to big mess by simply holding the filter housing under the outlet. I don’t want to use that jar and lid.

ETA: hate going through Amazon, but they’d ship it to me before Mothers Day.

I returned a $100 grinder for Christmas and bought a $12 Krups grinder from Wal Mart. Works like a charm and is a little bigger than a can of beer. Can’t tell the difference.

I think you bought a spice grinder.

That Cuisinart one is the same one I’ve had for well over a decade. Still works great. I buy whole roasted beans and grind them as needed. It’s especially handy since the groceries eliminated bulk whole beans and a grinder in the store. (Wtf is up with that?)

You set grain size between medium and coarse, closer to medium?

I set it closer to fine. Two dots to the left of the one over the “e” in Medium.

Krups calls it a coffee and spice grinder. Stainless steel blades. All you need.

I think the store bought ground coffee is too fine of grain, and there’s no real way to control grain size with that. We stir our machine at the beginning to wet all the grounds:

But the grounds still have varying degrees of extraction when we toss the filter. I think if we figure out the grain size that minimizes that we’ll be good.

I can pulse it some and it only cuts to a larger grain. Run it for a while for fine grain. We’re not doing brain surgery here!

Like clockwork. Every time I buy a ‘nice’ gift for someone off of Amazon, and time is the only issue why I ever do it, it shows up in a box all taped together. Do they only sell items that have been returned from somewhere else on the net?

This $350 grinder sure the frick has been returned…fingerprints all over it, and the packaging is shittily put back in the box…

I guess we’ll just give it to her on the counter with it in operating condition…the box looks terrible.

NEVER AGAIN AMAZON. I’ve said it before when I got my dad a banged up ceramic grill. It’s ALL returned products.

Nothing like this again. Pisses me off that no one even looks in the box after someone returns it…just sell it Amazon at full price.

If they were honest and said this has been returned…I wouldn’t have bought it. Should be a choice, 10% off and returned…or a fresh, unopened item for full price.

I just hope whoever returned it didn’t take something off of it, swap some broken part from theirs and return the new one…who fricking knows what I got? It’s Chinese to begin with, now I have one that someone obviously took out, setup, and for some reason returned.

Whenever you pay $150 for groceries at Whole Foods this weekend, bend over and say “thank you Jeffrey”
