Hypothetical if a restaurant leaves something off your bill do you say something?

Went to dinner last night, looked at the bill and initially thought they left the app off the bill. After looking closely turns out it was on there but sparked a debate at the table about whether to say something or not. So do you say something or take the free app?

I would probably say something, but it would depend on the level of service we received that day.

If they weren’t doing their job properly, like hustling instead of chatting with a co worker while I need a refill , then no I would pay leave a tip and roll out.

If they are young or new or doing the job properly, yes I would tell them.

I honestly wouldn’t notice. Usually give the card before a bill comes because the back and forth of the normal transaction process drives me crazy.

I probably wouldn’t say anything if it was a soft drink or something like that. I’d absolutely say something if something like a bottle of wine.

Unless something has changed with POS systems, I imagine it is rare for a food item to be missing because ringing it into the POS is what triggers the BOH machine to print a ticket for the kitchen. In essence, your food wouldn’t have gotten cooked if it wasn’t rung in.

Exceptions to that would be things the servers might be in charge of preparing/grabbing themselves, such as ladling out soup or unwrapping a side salad.

I probably only look at the itemized half the time, if the total looks about right I just drop the card. I have noticed things missing before and extra things, I point it out. Servers have never cared about the missing things and always gladly taken off the extra things.

I probably wouldn't notice. If I did, it would depend on what the item was and where I was. If it's a restaurant I don't go to often, or it's something big like a main course, I'm going to say something. If it's a restaurant I frequent and it's something small like a corking fee, small plate, or dessert, I'm likely to assume that was intentional and tip accordingly.

Probably wouldn’t say anything, but would definitely increase the tip amount by at least half the amount of money saved. For all I know, the waiter did it on purpose fishing for an extra tip. I’ll oblige.

Anytime I happened to notice I've said something if it was a large part of the bill. If it's a drink or something small, I'd probably just throw a few extra bucks on the tip.

I don't always pay attention to the itemized bill so I'm sure I've let it go without noticing before.

I never look at the receipt, so I wouldn’t notice.

Chances are good that I wouldn't notice. Usually, when the bills come, I hand the card to the server, right then, to avoid the server having to come back again to pick it up and run it. I look at the total when deciding on the tip. I might notice if the total was off by a good bit, but otherwise, I don't scrutinize the listed items. If I noticed something, I would let them know.

There was a time I was using a university credit card to pay for meals and I had to check the bill carefully when it arrived. I would correct oversights, either way. In my personal life I’m not as good at checking, unless the total is not close to what I thought it would be. An app or entree I would tell them about, but not a non-alcoholic drink.

I always look at the receipt but I generally have an idea of what the bill should be so if its not in my vicinity, I will check the itemized. If they left off a dish, I would say something

Usually I look at the itemized bill to see what soft drinks cost and at mexican restaurants when i ask for jalapenos extra for tacos or whatever. This is strictly just to humor myself

I rarely look at the itemized.

Now at Texas Dicks brazil on BR I got screwed by not looking at the itemized receipt... well they never brought one. Turns out they added gratuity of 20% then I tipped heavily on top of that. I was pissed, the restaurant didn't want to do anything about it so I called my CC company right infront of the manger and explained the situation and the rep reversed the entire charge, not just the extra tip.

The food sucks anyway unless you like over salted mushy meats and a dime a dozen salad bar.

If I noticed…
I’d definitely say something if they overcharged me, so I guess I’d have to be some kind of a-hole to not say anything if they left something off the bill

This is a big reason to look at the receipt, surprised how many don't.

Yes I say something, and most of the time the server just says don't worry about it.

Most servers don't leave things off on purpose to get a higher tip. They realize they are basically commissioned. Lots of new servers everywhere. I'd look at the bills if I were you guys. Probably more a chance something is on your bill that's not supposed to be. Not that any of my folks would do this but... It's not unheard of for a server to slip their employee meal on a big check .

Rouj Creole will frick up the bill during happy hour every time. Check it to make sure they don't overcharge you for beer.

I keep track iin my head of what was ordered and what I expect the bill to be, old habit from when I was usually broke. If it is a couple of bucks either way, I don't care, but if they over/undercharge by $10 I will show them the discrepancy.

The worst was the now defunct Aw Shucks on Highland, we were with another couple, we all ordered about the same thing, drank about the same, but when the checks came ours was way too high, theirs was about right. I looked at the itemized and it bore no resemblance to what we ordered. I showed it to the server, she apologized and returned with another bill, equally screwed up. So I turned it over and wrote my own bill for what we had, I paid in cash and left.

Yes. I would. Not worth the feeling of guilt and it is the right thing to do
