re: The Shield

The shield was the first show of its kind I ever watched…Episodic, but with longer arcs.
I didn’t have hbo at the time, so the shield, and later Justified, were brand new concepts for me.
Also, the shield really muddied the lines between protagonist and antagonist. They showed you in the very first episode what a terrible guy Vic was, but they still were able to make him more than sympathetic (very similar to Tony Soprano).
I watched the shield first, so it’s my #1. For me, Justified is next, followed by the wire and the sopranos.

Mags Bennet, so good
We’ve discussed this in a previous la lagniappe thread of mine.
My previous experience at Mansur’s have been OK, not great. I specifically ordered the “visiting fish” tonight based on what you said in a prior thread. It was fantastic. Thanks for the rec.
I ordered crawfish bisque tonight expecting a very dark, roux base with stuffed crawfish heads.
What I got was (in my mind) a lobster bisque with crawfish instead of lobster.
It was good, but it’s not what I expected or wanted.
Thoughts on what constitutes crawfish bisque.
I rank it below Ruth’s and La Lagniappe based on my experience.
Last time I went was mediocre. Tonight really bumped it up the list for me, though. Everything was great.

Nice dinner at Mansur’s tonight

Apps were shrimp cocktail, chargrilled oysters, tuna, egg rolls. All very good.
Wife had veal Oscar. Very good with a nice bernaise. I think there was a Demi as well.
Friend had cedar plank redfish. Said it was very good.
Rest of us had the “visiting” triple tail, pan-seared with buerre blanc. I had mine with the “cocodrie” topping(crab, mushrooms, green onions). Served over garlic mashed potatoes or Parmesan risotto. The fish was phenomenal. Everyone cleaned their plates.
Butterfinger crème brûlée stole the show from the dessert course.
I’ll be honest… I wasn’t super excited to be going here tonight (group date), but they knocked it out of the park.

Caught 10 croaker. Unfortunately, that was not our desired target species.
All the croaker caught on live shrimp. Didn’t get a bite on artificial. Was pretty rough, but water was moving and relatively clean. Very disappointing.

Justin Bowles seems to be a popular name that always comes up in this subject. I don’t have any first hand knowledge, though.

Bump. Planning on heading down Friday. They still on the bridges?
I’m not sure if the bread the use for the lover is the same as the deli special. It’s definitely different shape, might be some seeds on the round(deli special) that aren’t on the lover.
But it’s essentially the same sandwich.
You might consider learning how to use a comma before ranting about university academic standards.
It’s not a ton of meat, but I think the balance is correct. I’m not eating it thinking the meat is lacking.

Is the best sandwich in Baton Rouge, and it’s not particularly close.
They’re very good carry out, but eating it hot in the store is next level.

Did that involve a star swimmer? Because accusations were certainly made of her fricking her coach.

Any “star swimmer”’s coach would not have been employed by the school. That would have been a private coach.
Also, I never heard any of those rumors or accusations. And if that did happen, she was definitely the victim. Her character, work ethic, and reputation were beyond reproach (if we are thinking of the same person).
Checking in from ‘95-96. One certain teacher/coach from that era is lucky there were no cell phones/text messages.
