How should a gentleman dress for brunch at commanders?

How formal is it compared to dinner? Plus it’s the middle of summer. TIA

Jacket without a tie is perfect but a jacket is necessary

Seersucker. As any fine Southern gentleman would wear

I wear button down and slacks for brunch or lunch in the summer. Jacket during the winter. Dinner is a jacket with no tie year round.

I always wear a coat and tie there. At least wear a coat.

What if you're fat and look sloppy in a skinny suit?

I always wear a coat, no tie. If you're concerned about the heat, just put it on before you go in. It's proper etiquette, something that's lost these days

Lose some weight or buy a better fitting suit.
Preferably both.

Thank you as well for the conversational hiatus. I generally refrain from speech during gustation. There are those who attempt both at the same time...I find it coarse and vulgar.

If you don't wear a coat, they will give you a loaner, which you'd probably prefer to avoid...

They don't require a coat. I think you *should* wear one, but they won't make you. Pretty much as long as you are wearing slacks and a button down, you are good to go and won't get any greif.

I think Galatoire's in the only place in the city that will still hand out a "loaner" jacket.

The last time I went wearing a suit, I was incredibly overdressed.
More than a few tshirts were there.

Arguably one of Goodman's best roles.

I think slacks and a tailored jacket is the answer to 90% of these questions. You can do almost anything with that, and you'll very rarely be underdressed and usually not be excessively overdressed. You'll be the right amount of overdressed.
