You've heard right but it's not steady. May make $15,000 in December and $2,000 in August.

For some of the older ones who do it for 30+ years, easily. They get a nice crowd of regulars and they're set. My great aunt and uncle used to go out to all the fancy restaurants in town and "their" waiter would always wait on them and my aunt and uncle tipped very nicely for the personal service. VERY nicely.

Back when Baton Rouge did not have so many restaurants and Ruth's Chris was the only steakhouse, the waitresses there (and there were only waitresses, no men at the time) did very well.

Meh, I think y’all are pushing it. It is possible to make around 100k, but it is definitely a very very rare occurrence.

To make 100k, they would need to clear $400 EVERY night 5 x a week and no vacations.

Let’s say they are able to pull in about 400-500 a night (which is on the very high end), they still have to tip out bussers bar and host and maybe a back server.

I would say about 60k is more accurate and only for someone working in a always packed nice restaurant 5 shifts a week.

Yep, during tourist season, they can make bank. Overall, I'm not sure that most end up making six figures, although there are a couple of waiters at Galatoire's who are knocking down close to 100K.

It is extremely difficult to make 100k as a waiter in NOLA. In NYC it's very possible but even those jobs are coveted positions. 50-60k is the norm at a very high end Nola restaurant.

I don't think that's on the high end for expensive restaurants. A table for two at a nice steakhouse will get $40 minimum.

My last client dinner was a 5 top and the tip was around $180. And we were 1 of 3 tables for thar waiter for a 615 res and all the tables were 4+. That's likely at least $300 for one turnover. They probably wait 8-10 tables a night.

$500 sounds a little low for a weekend high end, but remember a lot of places are splitting those tips in the kitchen.

True, the tipouts probably eat into those numbers a good bit.

I don't believe the figures in that link, though. That's reported income. I bet the real number is 25% higher.

I would think $75-80k is average for the high end. $100-120k on the very high end of an experienced “career waiter” with lots of regulars. They aren’t taking home 100% of their tips. Lots of people to “tip out”. The bar, bus staff, host, kitchen, etc

It’s also probably very seasonal.

You are not very good at math.

52 weeks in a year
400 x 5 = 2000
100,000 / 2000 = 50
52 - 50 = 2 weeks of vacation
