Normally the only time i buy whiskey is during football season so i can sip on a few drinks all day and not fill up on beer. I normally will mix it into an old fashioned and its pretty easy to tell a cheap whiskey from an expensive one. If you're going to mix it with coke then sure, go cheap because you cant tell anyway.

Evan Williams Green Label is about as expensive as I'll go. I've tried against $60 bottles and my sense of taste can't pick up much difference. Im sure the snobs can, but I dont drink the fancy shite because the bottom shelf stuff tastes good to me!

If you believe a great single malt scotch tastes the same as a cheap whiskey then, by all means, buy the cheap stuff.
For my palate there is an enormous difference and the good stuff is worth every penny.

I usually spend about 80$ for a bottle of tequila that I like. Huge difference in quality between cheap tequila and quality tequila.

Or just put the bottle down and lean into the quiet desperation.

it's fine if you don't understand something

I've had that happen before. Usually it's more in the $50-$100 range though. Fortunately, YouTube has helped weed these brands/bottles out. If you're not drinking it neat, then I wouldn't spring for anything over $50. Buying a $100 bottle of bourbon and then putting the same amount of Coke in it, is just a waste.

I hardly ever buy expensive liquor since with few exceptions, everything I drink is a mixed drink and I think it foolish to add mixers to top shelf stuff where a decent cheaper brand will work fine.
Same with wine. Most will tell you a good bottle of inexpensive wine is not a hell of a lot different than stuff that costs 10 times more.
To me, it boils down to being a bit of a snob to name drop crazy expensive liquors as your go-to.

Spent $430 on a shot of Louie Tre the other night. Not a normal indulgence on my part.

I have a few bottles of Macallan special editions that were pretty pricey. Most of the bourbon I have was moderately priced. I did spend some coin on a couple bottles of Blanton's, mostly because I had never tried it before. It's decent whiskey, but definitely way over-priced.

What's the point of a name drop if 95% of people would have no clue what it is? I drink high end whiskey, but I only talk about it to other people who are into whiskey. It's not like wearing a Rolex that everyone will recognize, it's not really a flex to drink a pour of a $500 bottle of whiskey if no one knows it's $500. It would be like wearing a JLC.

I spend my money on shite I like. If you don't understand or appreciate it, GFO.

Jesus this is nuts. Granted, wine is much harder to pick due to the sheer amount of it. But a good bottle of wine is night and day different than a cheap bottle.
Congrats on being able to save a ton of money because you can't tell the difference. Do you feel the same with a Texas Roadhouse steak and a Ruth's Chris Steak?

Actually, I buy prime beef when I want steak and cook it myself, not that I haven't had a few steaks from Ruth's Chris, but I would rather spend that $60+ for that one steak on other more important things.

What a waste of money. Why buy prime beef when dollar store beef tastes just as good?
