How familiar are you with asian alcohol?

So my local convenience store dude is korean and he had some stuff called soju. I tried some of that and it’s the worst thing I’ve ever drank. Smells like super glue and tastes like arse. I’ve also had some chinese liquor which was similar in nature of fact that it all tastes like arse. Rice ain’t meant for this.

A friend brought me back some Japanese potato vodka and it was absolutely the worst thing I have ever drank. That includes some pretty crappy moonshine that I’ve had before.

This. It goes down smooth and sneaks up on you. My Cambodian ex used to being me bottles all the time. Dangerous if you mix it with something like powerade

Its an acquired taste, but in korean culture you're drinking that stuff non-stop any time youre in anything remotely resembling a social setting. You'll acquire it really fast.

I was banged up from the rehearsal dinner but still went shot for shot with them until we killed the bottle. They were impressed and I wanted to die. Represented that good ole USA like a champ that night.

Soju is drank at Korean bbq restaurants. You go through bottle after bottle while you eat and have a good time. A table of good ol Korean baws will have a dozen empty bottles on the table by the end of the night.
The flavored soju is better. The non flavored just tastes like weak vodka.

My experience with soju was to use it as a floater in your beer. Drinking that stuff gave me a 24 hr hangover for the first time in my life.

When I was in south Japan with the military, the older Japanese would cut it with boiling water. That was awhile back.

Oh, Soju is fricking amazing compared to Baijiu. I’d drink an entire pint of Soju before having another shot of Baijiu.

I’d go with fermented dog piss with baijiu, but that’s just my opinion.

A friend (a former LSU prof) nearly lost his eyesight from drinking a beer over there. He'd been warned about the lack of quality control on alcoholic beverages that weren't properly distilled, but his beer had a cap that appeared to have come from the factory. Except it hadn't. Wrong kind of distillation.
