I used to drink soju all the time when I was stationed in SK. It tastes terrible but it was $3 for 1.5 liters. They make these things called soju kettles which I think was just soju and kool aid. In some places they were served in big glasses but in others they were served in 2 liter bottles with the top cut off. $5 for a 2 liter cocktail. You learn to love it.

Did that make you homesick for Alabama?

I'm not from Alabama, a-hole.

But it did make me homesick for my trailer park.

Soju and sake have similar effects on me..I won’t feel drunk, but at some point my grasp on the English language will quickly begin to detreriorate. There isn’t much better tasting alcohol than cold apple or plum sake.

Soju is tolerable. Baiju tastes like alcoholic water, that you've left your dirtiest socks to soak in overnight.

The grapefruit soju is the best flavor they make. I barely touch soju, but I tried this in 2015.The grapefruit flavor hides the vile taste of soju really well.

I love soju! I have a Korean co-worker who introduced me to it and it's like vodka, only sweeter and without the burn. Packs the same punch, though.

Sounds like sljivovica, a plum brandy they make in Croatia. Very strong stuff.

I had a buddy whose parents were from Seoul and the soju I had with them was made from sweet potatoes. Not bad at all.

Soju is 20%, it's like weak mild vodka. Super smooth and cheap, if you had bad soju you must have bought some super cheap stuff. Soju is like $3 for a 2 liter in Korea, so it's dirt cheap already.

As said they absolutely pound it in Korea. It's the most consumed liquor in the world by case, which I know is hard to imagine over Vodka or whiskey. But that's what the experts say, I think because it's weaker.
