Looking for a good/non-cheesy/non-chain restaurant for a party of 8-10 ladies for dinner.

I see a lot of the dining options over there are franchises or are kinda cheesy (what's with the Bourbon street come to the beach theme??). We'd also like something on the water.

Any recommendations?

Crab Trap is pretty good.

Drive a bit further to 30-A. Cafe 30-A is really nice. Cafe Tango is as well. Stinky's Fish Camp is real good too.

ETA: Those aren't 'on the water' per say, maybe Bud and Alley's in Sea Side if you have to be there. George's in Alys Beach has an outside patio where you can see the water...

it's OK food (MUCH better than back porch), but you'll have one toddler hitting you in the back of the head with his/her straw and another running laps around your table. I'll take my family there, but I'm sure as hell not going there with a group of friends.

On the water? In that area, you've got Beach Walk (which used to be awesome, but I haven't been there in awhile). Or, you could head out to 30-A and go Fish Out of Water. Other than that, your limited if you want to be on the water. Vintij is really good in the Mirimar area as is Bistro Bijou (neither of these are on the water, though).

We're going to be cabbing it and going out after, so a 30 minute ride is kind of out of the question. Next time I'm in that area I'll be sure to check out; all those places look really good.

Cafe 30-A is awesome. The quail is great, lamb chops are da' bomb, and they have some good teuqilla. Cheese grits are awesome too.

Go to Vintij wine bar and restaurant. It's local, lots of good wines, and the food is very good. It's not on the water, but it's probably the best non-chain food option in Miramar Beach.

I saw that place - it just kind of weirded me out because it's in a strip mall. I'll keep it in consideration - I've seen good reviews for it. Would love better ambiance, but it seems all the places on the water are sub-par.

The ambiance is not quite there for Vintij, but the food is great. For ambiance and good food, and if you don't want ot cab it out to 30-A, then beachwalk - LINK - is certainly an option.

It's fine once you get inside, but you're right in that there's an unfortunate trade off between having good food and having a good view. Another odd recommendation, but one I think is appropriate given your group would be Tommy Bahama. I know, it's a chain, but the food is very good, and fresh, and if you like umbrella drinks, theirs are fantastic. They've also got a nice outdoor seating area that looks over a lawn with a fountain.

Agree with night life but there are much better places to eat. Vintij is great for lunch or dinner. I really think beach walk would be perfect for what you describe. If you're going to sandestin consider seagars in the Hilton. If you make it down 30-a that opens up a ton of great places.

I also looked here - it looks better than a lot of the other franchise places. Maybe because we don't have one in LA haa.

This. Tommy Bahama is really nice and the food is good. We usually sit either outside or in the room that is technically inside but you can look outside from.

If you go to Vintij, be sure to get a reservation. Check their website, they have some wine-tasting dinners coming up. Aside from the strip center it really is a great restaurant.

AJ's food has succumbed to higher prices with smaller portions/not as good quality. Although the outside tables & bar on the water are nice scenery.

Cuvee Bistro right past the Bass Pro is excellent. Also have to wife with the 30-a folks. It's worth the trip.
