You gotta get on that Yelp wait list. It's GREAT!!
You should absolutely do that. They welcome tributes to those who served. IMO the best place to be featured is by the bathroom. I've waited many minutes and sent many prayers to the families of the lost soldiers honored there.
Ate lunch there today. It's literally in a case (a frame) with a plaque explaining it

Pizza King

Does anyone have a photo of the outside of Pizza King? I've been looking for this forever
John Besh's Angel Biscuits are divine... cold butter and the folding/rolling technique makes them flaky

Angel Biscuits

Serves 12

1 package active dry yeast
5 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 cups buttermilk
1 cup (2 sticks) butter

1.Dissolve the yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add the buttermilk and dissolved yeast and mix well. Using a pastry knife, cut the butter into the mixture.

2.Since this makes a light, fairly wet dough, sprinkle 1/2 cup of flour on the counter before you roll out the dough.Roll out the dough into a rectangle. Fold the two sides in, making a triple layer of dough. Cut the dough into 3-inch circles or squares. Place on a nonstick baking sheet, cover loosely, and refrigerate overnight.

3.The next morning, preheat the oven to 400°. Bake for 15–20 minutes, until golden brown.

re: Blue crab - dirt smell?

Went through the trouble of pickin em and they seem fine. Didn't get a ton of meat, but enough for about 4-5 crab cakes or a good bit of dip. That smell was just more rank than normal I guess.

Yeah...stinky crabs...that could be a serious problem

Blue crab - dirt smell?

My parents gave us a few live crabs they caught out of the Rigolets this morning and they smelled like kinda off - like dirt I guess. I rinsed and boiled them, and they still kinda smell. Is there something wrong with them?

Got it as a wedding gift. Works great, esp the convection. I had the same issue paying $250 (or asking someone else to) for the Breville, but I'm sure it's awesome.

Look on the Pioneer Woman's website for her sr recipe. theyre amazing - I find they're best if made a day ahead and you skim the fat off before heat and serve. I serve them with horseradish cheddar grits.

This - but to go only for me.

Dim Sum

And this. Outside Mid City, but worth the extra few miles. They have Dim Sum and a regular Chinese menu.

Definitely go here, but make a reservation. We were staying there and didn't have one because we honetly didn't know we needed one (there were easily 12 tables available at 7pm), but the manager looked at us like we were out of line. They did seat us, but at a not great table. Make a reservation and get a table for 2 right on the edge of the beach.

I totally forgot about that

service was horrendous

I've had the same problem about 50% of the time I go there. The sushi is definitely more authentic at SY and it's definitely really good, but I prefer the ambiance of Ichiban and I've liked everything I've had there.

I'm being asked to help my sister-in-law pick between these two (and only these 2) for a family dinner after her wedding.

What's your vote and why

wine bar downtown? Did it close?

Yep, it closed
Af far as what would pair well - I'd make lemon bars or something else citrusey & refreshing to take some of the heat off.
I took my fiancé to one of their date night classes for his birthday. It was fun, we learned a lot, the food and instructors were great. If I could have one complaint it's that they only serve wine with dinner. So if you want to drink during the first 2 hours, you have to pay for it yourself. It just got a little pricey for me at $109 pp + extra costs.

We've been discussing that very thing here:

It's mostly crappy food in that area, but there are a few good places that have been noted

BR or NOLA?

I went to the Central Market in Houston - they're only in TX. LINK Had a grill going outside with hamburgers, salmon burgers, chicken, etc and a band playing. Their salad bar inside probably had about 50 items on it, and tons of other specialty kiosks in the store for charcuterie items, olives/marinated items, any cheese you could think of, great meat and seafood selection, bakery, flowers, really good beer and wine selection... it was like Heaven on Earth.

I've never been to a place that includes sausage with their crawfish

Is seriously awesome. Blows Whole Foods and Fresh Market out of the water IMO

It's a chain

Yeah... that's what I kept thinking about. I really don't like chains, but some are good. Now we're thinking about Camille's after my friend "highly" recommended it. It's also on/by the water. It's local and doesn't have a website, but they have a FB page and the entrees look really good.
Juban's has an Easter Brunch, I got an email from Texas de Brazil as well about their Easter lunch
In the same realm as Tommy Bahama's - has anyone been to Mitchell's Fish Market?
Now that's a view! Food looks great too

I also looked here - it looks better than a lot of the other franchise places. Maybe because we don't have one in LA haa.

Vintij wine bar and restaurant

I saw that place - it just kind of weirded me out because it's in a strip mall. I'll keep it in consideration - I've seen good reviews for it. Would love better ambiance, but it seems all the places on the water are sub-par.
We're going to be cabbing it and going out after, so a 30 minute ride is kind of out of the question. Next time I'm in that area I'll be sure to check out; all those places look really good.
Looking for a good/non-cheesy/non-chain restaurant for a party of 8-10 ladies for dinner.

I see a lot of the dining options over there are franchises or are kinda cheesy (what's with the Bourbon street come to the beach theme??). We'd also like something on the water.

Any recommendations?
