What are your thoughts on each? I've had electric my whole life, but I am interested in gas to see what that would be like. Pros/cons?

GAZ 100%. No cons that I can think of and I have had both!

I find it easier to regulate temperature on a good gas range.

Switched from electric to gas 2 years back. I will never own a house with an electric stove again.
I do have a dual-fuel range. Gas stove, electric oven. I think it's the best of both worlds.

I've had both. Gas wins this easily in my household.

When I bought my house that was the 1st thing that I looked for....gas range. You have much more control over the temperature that you are cooking at and the heat is more evenly dispersed.
Only con would be paying to have a gas line run.

Gas.......electric is horrific.
Had one of these in my first house....funny story about it.
Wife used to travel a lot on business, so it was the first night on my own. I set a pot of water on the stove to boil, turned around to get the pasta and heard a giant pop. I took a look at the range and it had a crack running right down the middle. Fortunately, the wife didn't kill me over that one.

Same here. Not having a gas range was a deal breaker for us.

Pro - Gas
Con - Electric
There is no pro to electric if you like to cook that I can think of.

Elecricity won't leak and blow up your family.
But other than that I concur w/ your statement.

I would think that gas won't either when one has a functioning head attached to their body.
But yeah, I guess that possibility always exists.

Sorry, I'm going against the grain. Have had 2 gas and 1 electric. Will never go back to gas because of cleaning. The glasstop electric takes 5 seconds to clean.
It does require timing on heat, ie, coasting or removing to a cold burner, but I've had no trouble adjusting to that.
If you get a spill over on a gas range you've got some cleaning to do.

The concentration of gas into the air would have to be so heavy for combustion, you would know there was a problem LONG before it could occur. The smell of gas would be so strong at that level, you couldn't stand to be in the house.

Gas. It's hard to fry fish or chicken "just right" on electric.

Yea, but some people are dumb, live in really small houses, and have poorly functioning noses. It's people like this who potentially are very susceptible to getting their asses blown up by their gas stove.

Gas - cheaper and you have a way of cooking or keeping the house warm when the power goes out
