Where’s a good spot to get a catfish plate? Thin cut and crispy preferably. My usual spot is George’s but just wondering who you guys like

I bought this at Oak Point Grocery in Central a couple weeks ago and ate it on the tailgate under a nice shady oak tree. $6.50. ‘‘Twas good and hot and cheap.
It was a ton of fish fried just right and for some reason I can’t recall I actually dipped a few pieces in ketchup. Probably the first ketchup I’ve had in a couple years and I liked that too.
Dukes does good catfish. Sammy’s used to but I haven’t been since they reopened. And I agree on Spahrs and of course Mittendorfs.
Rocco’s does a good catfish PO-boy. Does Dempsey’s have it?

I assume you mean in Louisiana.
I'm not sure if it's a thing in Louisiana, but my favorite is fiddlers if you can find them. Man cast iron skillet pan fried fiddlers are amazing.

I've tried them at Jed's. They were good.

Kind of depends on where you are and how far you're willing to drive.
Personally, I like Middendorf's in Manchac for their thin cut fried catfish, but I only stop there if heading out that way, which is about 3 times a year or so.

Spahrs does not do it for me. Dredged in hot sauce but plain otherwise with a plain batter. I don’t care for it one bit. Very underwhelming. If people like it, good, but I just can’t see how people like that.

I am not a fan of thin cut fish I figure its a restaurants way to stretch a fish and save money. I like a lil fish with my fried corn. hard to beat a nice thick fillet seasoned in a seasoned mustard egg wash in seasoned fish fry

I’m just the opposite.
Everybody has a preference.

Catholic church down the road has a fish fry every Friday. Probably headed down there this afternoon with a cooler.

I love Jeds for poboys, but their fried fish was meh. I had some from
Bergeron’s market today that was fantastic. The homemade tarter sauce was very good also.

Do you really like leftover catfish? Fried fish is about the only thing I really don't like reheated.

Mandeville Seafood and Lama's Seafood both make a good catfish plate. I think I give the slight edge to Mandeville Seafood, although their fries suck. Lama's uses the same french fries as Dukes by Bass Pro Shop.
Middendorf's has been hit / miss for us in Slidell. And I'm over the thin fried filets they serve.

Man cold fried fish the next morning is right up there with cold pizza or fried chicken. Good stuff.
But when I grew up we all ate leftovers so you learned to enjoy those. None of those reheat well-maybe pizza a bit. Fresh white bread, dab of ketchup and cold fish. Glass of ice cold whole milk.
Then back to bed.

Try reheating it in the oven.
Microwave reheated fish is nasty.

Carter's Supermarket Deli - at least the one on Cockerham in Denham - fried up some bodacious catfish. Seasoning is spot on.

Not sure where you're looking but my favorite catfish plate is P & G in the CBD. Fresh, good portions, and reasonably priced.
