I'm looking for tasty tiki cocktails to make for an 8-10 person group this weekend. They can be moderately complex, but nothing too time consuming.

Any recommendations?

Painkillers, mai tais, pina coladas will all batch pretty well. Hemingway daiquiri is a nice change of pace and slightly less sugary sweet. 90% of tiki drinks are just a daiquiri derivation anyway and I say this as someone who loves a good tiki bar.

and by "daiquiri" you mean lime, sugar and rum. most people will think you mean frozen sugar drinks, so I'm just clarifying for you.

Yes tiki drinks can be quite good when done correctly. The problem is that we have over sugared them through the years.

Pain Killers or Mai Tai's. Pain Killers are a little heavy with the cream of coconut , so can only drink 1 or 2.

Can kill numerous Mai Tai's though.

Goombay Smash

1 oz. Malibu Caribbean Rum with Coconut Liqueur
1 oz. Captain Morgan Caribbean White Rum
1 oz. Captain Morgan Dark Spiced Rum- OPTIONAL
1/2 oz. Apricot Brandy
2 oz. DOLE Pineapple Juice (don't cut corners here - Dole Pineapple Juice is what Miss Emily's uses)
2 oz. Orange Juice

For scaling purposes, a fifth has roughly 25 ounces.

Those drinks are gonna be potent with 3.5oz per, so maybe double the juice.

they have 1000's of cocktail receipts and a bunch of tiki ones as well.
I recently made Missionary's Downfall.

1 ounce white rum
1/2 ounce creme de peche
1 large fresh pineapple chunk, about 1/4 cup
3/4 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed
1/2 ounce honey syrup
8-12 large mint leaves
Garnish: mint sprig
Garnish: pineapple wedge

it was amazing!

Not a tiki cuz the fruity punches quickly get too sweet for me...dark and stormy.

Those pain killers are pretty good. I spent an afternoon drinking those things on a cruise ship one time.

Painkillers and Zombies are probably my favorites. I usually only do a Zombie if I'm only having one drink though and I don't think I would recommend it for a batch.

The only advice I'd give is to not cheap out on the rum. I'm not saying go crazy, but don't go bottom shelf.

Depending on what the recipe calls for, we use Smith & Cross a lot, our normal 151 is Goslings but we just got a bottle of Lemon-Hart's. The white rum we normally use is Plantation 3 Star. Most of the Hamilton's and the Plantation that we've tried, we've liked.

I’m fond of an Ancient Mariner. Most Tiki drinks are fairly strong, for a party I would tend to lean on weaker drinks in the tropical theme like the Pina Colada, Shark Attack, or Blue Hawaii.

My wife worked at Disney straight out of high school and learned this mai tai that she breaks out on occasion.

Captain's Mai Tai

Ingredients:
1 ounce Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum
3/4 ounce Amaretto
4 ounce Pineapple Juice
1/2 ounce Lime Juice
1/4 ounce Grenadine

1/4 ounce Myers's Rum Float

Method of Preparation:
1. Add first four ingredients in a mixing glass over ice.
2. Shake.
3. Pour in Hurricane glass (works in a 12oz plastic cup too) and add float of Myers's Rum.
4. Garnish with Pineapple wedge and serve.

We like this one as well:

Harambe Cooler

Ingredients:
1 part Starr African rum (sub captain morgan or a heavily spiced dark rum if Starr is unavailable)
1 part Myers's Original Dark rum
4 parts Pangani Punch.? (3 parts Dole Pineapple Orange Strawberry juice and 1 part cranberry juice)

Method of Preparation:
1. Add all ingredients in a mixing glass over ice.
2. Shake.
3. Pour in 12oz plastic cup.
4. Garnish with maraschino cherry and serve.
