Ah yes, Beijing, the United States of China. Not authentic

I guess you've never had egg rolls from that hole in the wall place Chinese Kitchen on Carrolton.
These are fantastic!

My normal order from the places I go is two egg rolls, fried dumplings, then whatever entree and rice I want. I proceed to eat the egg rolls and dumplings, then like 1/4th of the entree and save it for lunch the next day. It is really a well balanced meal
I'm always full after the egg rolls and whatever other app I order, so I try to avoid ordering an entree because I rarely eat much of it. On occasion, I might eat some leftovers, but it's not the same without the egg rolls for me!

The (super) Sweet and Sour stuff is overrated, in my opinion.

Egg rolls elsewhere and in Asia are probably more in tune with the lettuce type rolls
Is that even an egg roll anymore? Are you talking about lettuce wraps?

No, but they're probably the most inconsistent. When the egg rolls are good, I could just eat an entire plate of them. Most places serve average, at best, ones though.
Stir fried rice is the most overrate Chinese dish.

i love eggrolls. especially dipped in the general's chicken sauce.

I love them either way, but prefer them in the smooth crispy wrapper vs. the bumpy egg roll wrapper that is always gummy on the inside.

Same here. I think some places use spring roll wrappers which are smooth and thinner. So good. I will eat the egg roll wrapped rolls, though. Some places get them right. Others do not quite fry them enough or something. I don't care for bites of the raw wrapper. I need some egg rolls now.

Red Beans and Rice because you had it at Popeye’s.
Poor analogy. Should’ve used buffet egg rolls that aren’t fresh and have been sitting out too long.
A good egg roll is hard to beat.

Popeye’s red beans and rice are dope, so…
As thr the OP: I like A good egg roll.

Royal China has the best egg rolls, at least when they don't use 5 spice in them.
Chinese Kitchen's egg rolls, as others have said, are very tasty, but in my experience are very greasy, too.

The best are the cold spring rolls at Vietnamese places that use rice paper. So damn good.

In the Nola Area I always Liked China Roses. They’re big and have those little pink shrimp in them.
I also Like 5 happinesses.
And yeah it aucks to get a soggy one that’s all cabbage. Just like it sucks to get soggy fries.
Does that mean fries are overrated?

Used to live down the street from a Thai woman who made homemade fried spring rolls. She made the traditional type that all places serve, but she also made a spinach/cheese version that would knock your socks off. They were 50 cents apiece. My mom used to buy 2 dozen for the family and I'd eat the majority.
