Gale's root beer (sold at Calandro's) is my go to root beer. Only sell it by the bottle. It has vanilla, cinnamon and ginger notes. LOVE IT!

IBC in a glass bottle. Nothing compares. Weird, I didn't like root beer as a kid either.

Tried Deschutes and it was the best I'd ever had. Don't think you can get it anywhere except in their Brewpub, though.

Doesn't anyone remember Rex Root Beer? That stuff was very good. I think it went away when Coke bought them out.

Not a big root beer drinker but if I drink it, it has to be Barq's.

Even better if you put a scoop of vanilla in the glass with it. Yum!

Barq's is my favorite brand, but the best I ever had I've never found twice. I found it, on a mountain top in the wilds of the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Oregon, near the Columbia River (Mt Hood). The lodge near the mountain top served a root beer that was better than all others. A magical, fizzy elixer with sweetness, crispness, and bite. I wish I knew the brand so I could get it shipped to me.

Abita. It's the only one I will break my no-soft drink pledge for.

Miles ahead of IBC or Barq's in glass bottles, which is the way to go.

But I'll have to try some of these other specialty ones that have been mentioned for sure.

You can buy Frostop root beer in bottles at Millerville Ace Hardware. They have both diet and regular.

I suspect that it was from one of the local breweries in Oregon. The have a lot of them, and they all make their own Root Beer. Some of them are amazing. I always ask for a sample when I go in to a new one - before I order my beer. Deschutes is still the best I've had, although some others will give it a run for their money...

Maine Saspirilla Soda. It tastes just like rootbeer. Common in the northeast

This stuff reminds me of the root beer my grandparents would make when I was a kid using the McCormicks extract.

World Market carries this though they are usually out or running low when I go

ETA:
From website:
Bulldog Root Beer is different from other national brands of root beer. Here's why:

First, we use only the best ingredients, which means the most expensive ingredients. For example, we use real cane sugar instead of corn syrup, and we use pure vanilla extract instead of artificial vanillin. Also, Bulldog Root Beer is actually brewed, which means it is cooked, just like in the old days. Brewing root beer is rare, but it develops certain flavors that you just can't get any other way.

We are perfectionists when it comes to root beer taste, and we spent two years developing nine test batches until we finally found the exact recipe we wanted to use.

Bulldog Root Beer is gently carbonated so that the delicate vanilla and honey flavors come through in the aroma. It is best served chilled without ice. Bulldog Root Beer is available at these fine
