Wall St Journal article valuing college athletic programs.
Posted by Z28 on 1/22/25 at 5:28 pm
WSJ
LSU is one of only 9 college athletic programs that would be valued at more than a billion dollars on the open market.
If you can't get past the paywall, here's the main point--
"The Buckeyes would be worth $1.96 billion if the team could be sold on the open market, according to an analysis by Ryan Brewer, an associate professor of finance at Indiana University Columbus. That puts Ohio State just ahead of Texas ($1.9 billion) and rival Michigan ($1.66 billion), with six other programs—Georgia, Notre Dame, LSU, Penn State, Tennessee and Texas A&M—topping the billion dollar mark.
Brewer conducts his study by analyzing a program’s finances and asking: What would it be worth if it could be bought and sold like a professional franchise?"

National media recognizes the problem, SI this morning:
"For a coach who is always striving to be mentioned more with peers like Kirby Smart and Nick Saban than lumped together with the James Franklins of the world, Kelly, it increasingly looks like, was never up to the task with this program that has churned over coaches yet equally produced ones who win national titles.

"Stop telling us what to do and learn the game of football.
I laugh at you references Colorado who is currently in a weakened division that BYU is leading. Colorado left knowing Texas and Oklahoma were leaving making it an easier path to playoffs. Not one team in that current division could win the SEC or make the playoffs with an SEC schedule",
It's all relative, LSU in BK season 3 should have top draft pick quality players somewhere on the roster, but they don't.

You are helping me make my point, in year 3, LSU doesn't have top draft pick talent, and Colorado has a top 10 recruiting class so they are building a winning foundation going forward.
STOP defending BK and blaming Orgeron

Stop defending BK based upon how he had to totally rebuild the program after inheriting only 39 scholarship players, he won 10 games and the SEC west with that foundation. 2 years later his team is going backwards, not forwards. Look at Colorado this season, Sanders started with only 10 scholarship players for the 2023 season, and yes he lost, for 2024 he purged the roster again and signed 69 new players, the Buffalos are now 7-2. Kelly uses the "we're doing it the right way" line as an excuse for the programs lack of progress, after Colorado's 2 roster purges, they now have a top 10 recruiting class, the roster will stabilize, so after doing what was initially necessary, Sanders looks to be "doing it the right way" going into his 3rd season in 2025. We are talking about LSU, winner of 3 natty's in the past 21 years, LSU simply doesn't have to work as hard or be as creative as Colorado to rebuild a program. STOP making and accepting excuses!

Quency Wiggins

I wonder if Quency Wiggins will see time on the field this year when starters need a breather. He's a freak athlete and smart kid, can't imagine him not developing into a great player.
NO!Does a Saints fan ever root for the Falcons...No! Does a Yankees fan ever root for the Red Sox...No!
Tied for 5th with 5 teams, 4 teams had better records, 5 teams worse, middle of the pack. LSU should never settle for this in any sport.
LSU was 9-9 in the SEC last year, the definition of mediocrity. Stop apologizing for an average coach that couldn't capitalize on his "gangster" reputation.
WW was coach for 5 years, trending consistently down, all of these WW followers are the same fans who cried when Les Miles was fired. Settling for mediocrity hoping the coach can stir up the mojo they had at the beginning of their run at LSU.
I don't hate WW, but I'm not blind to see his best year was 4 years ago, and after that each years SEC record was worse than the year before. I don't settle for mediocrity like so many WW lovers.

Fun to watch? Ranked 136 in scoring last year with a 9-9 conference record. Trending down 3 straight years.

Progressively worse SEC record every year after sweet 16 in 2019. Dumb enough to talk about "strong arse" offers over the phone. "Gangsters" I admire aren't that stupid.

"Time Out"

Don't like to get in to politics, but the "sanctions" we are putting on Russia reminds me of a naive parent putting an out of control child in to "time-out".
Sharon Lewis no longer employed at LSU.

Team hotel is the JW Marriot at Staples Center, is there anything LSU fan related going on there to justify staying there or nearby?
