$150 bourbon recs

That's a hard price point for shelf bourbon IMO.... I'd probably get 2 $75 bottles. Something like Wild Turkey Rare Breed, Old Forester 1920 or 1910, a Makers store pick, Old Elk store pick, 4 Roses Small batch selec

Not sure where you're at but a bunch of liquor stores around carry several in the $120 or so range. Calumet, Whistle Pig, Widow Jane are just a few. I've never had the Calumet or Widow Jane though. Whistle Pig 10yr is a favorite of mine, especially the store picks and they usually run about $80ish

Calumet is good, but it is very oaky. That may not appeal to many. I haven't had WJ13 yet, but my experiences with WJ in general so far haven't been the best.


I highly recommend the Bardstown Discovery. It has a very approachable profile for most, and it brings plenty of complexity.

You should select the bourbon before you select the price. Not the other way around.

Don’t spend over $100 on a bottle unless you just want a name sake

Saw my local Sams had Widow Jane 10 for like $62. I've never had any Widow Jane. Is that a good bourbon for the price?

If it’s still on the shelf and marked $150, there’s a reason it’s still on the shelf, it’s not worth $150.

It’s been a while since I’ve bought a bottle, but every bottle of “Barrell Whisky” was very good. They run $90-$120 each.
