I freaking love Cake Cafe. Their pastries are made fresh daily. The breakfasts are phenomenal. It's a great place to relax and enjoy a casual atmosphere.
But there are lots of other good places in the Marigny.
Why isn't Marigny Brasserie.. or Wasabi..or Sukhothai on this list? I'll also say the Country Club has a new chef and the food has been outstanding recently.

No one ever lists Melange, if it goes under I will be pissed. I really like the atmosphere and the Menu there.

Uh the Reuben at Buffa's is incredible.
Country Club should be on the list, but I doubt the sanctimonious OP has ever step foot in a known haven for homosexuals

Schiro's has good Indian food.. Casual, inexpensive but good.
Mona's on Frenchman has good Middle Eastern.
Rose Nicaud has breakfast sandwiches and coffee.
La Peniche used to be decent but I haven't been there in a while.
Who Dat Cafe has good breakfast, baked goods and espresso.
And I couldn't disagree with the OP more about bicycling through the Marigny and Bywater. It's alot of fun to bike there or walk the dog. Not a lot of traffic and lots of places to stop in and get an espresso. It's cool and funky and the people that live there or have weekend homes are very cool.

These houses of music have become the neighborhood's worship halls. Organized religion is an afterthought to most here, and as a result, no new culture of value will come from these neighborhoods any time soon.
i read his lists just for the tomfoolery of stuff like this.

Recently had the second best burger in the NOLA Metro at Buffa's. Hate on, playa.
Playa - all this reveals is that your ignorance of the Marigny/Bywater, is matched only by your uninformed opinions of hamburgers in the NO area. Might want to stick to the bible buddy.

I could count the times on one hand that I've been to the bars on Frenchman.. but they're all good music venues.. patronized by mostly locals.
TulaneLSU needs to get past his Ignatius Reilly schtick. It's lame.

Anyone who thinks I write anything like O'Toole has done very little reading. If there's anyone whose ideas my ideas mirror, they are those of Arnold Toynbee's, at least when it comes to a historical defense of why only a people rooted in organized religion can produce a culture of value. Pick up a copy of A Study of History next time you're in a book store or the library.

You left out Feelings Cafe completely. And you actually sound like you are a perfect mix of Ignatius P. Reilly and Thomas Hulce's Mozart from Amadeus.

I really enjoy the atmosphere at Feelings. I've also mentioned Melange on here before. I hope they work out the kinks, as the food is great.

No doubt. I am just waiting for VOR to show.
I'm trying to restrain myself.
I will say that I continue to be surprised that such talent and effort is used in such a wasteful manner. I guess the self-satisfaction is sufficient for the guy.

How can you speak of that area and say that it is touristy? Snug Harbor is the place where tired musicians just off a gig come to unwind at about 3 AM. YOu left off Cafe Brasil.

Cafe Brasil ain't there no more

Can't believe that place just stays boarded up like it does.

Was it a victim of Katrina or something else(management) that killed it. The last time I was in NOLA was '07, and the parts that I saw were still in devastation mode. I actually saw parts of the lower end of the drive to Venice to be better than the city.

Granted I haven't tried a lot in this area but I would have to put Elizabeth's on there. It's a must-eat for us whenever we come to town. I'd put the joint on it as well.

I would put Yuki on this list as a wildcard just because it's a fun place to go
And probably one of the only places in New Orleans where you can get shochu and Japanese tapas.
