I'm getting to that point. Tired of feeling like shite the day after. I quit for a few months earlier this year and I felt pretty damn good. Might try again.

switch to water. simple as that.

That’s an excellent plan. But then that “planner” gets 2-3 beers in him.

Yep.

Even less. One beer in the evening. Maybe twice a week. Got to be a fancy one though.

You need to drink water in addition to alcohol. You are getting dehydrated.

I can. And do all the time. But when I go, I go.

But I agree with what you’re saying.

Start having a few beers instead of whatever whiskey or bourbon you're pounding

You can drink way more beer and feel fine in the morning

There is not greater mastery than that of self mastery.

You know its a problem. Quit and be better for it.

No more than two servings* per day.

And that might only happen once or twice a week.

That’s what works for me.

Makes one focus on quality ahead of quantity.

*Servings are not liberal pours.

yea this is the gayest thread I've seen in a while.

Most of us old Fuds >40 simply plan our hard drinking events more carefully than we did in our 20s. We cut the grass on Saturday morning before going tailgate and to the LSU game for example.
We're wise enough to make sure we have a nice recovery day the next day with little to do.

It's not rocket science. And it's most definitely worth it if you know how to act when shite-canned drunk.
You're just a little poon. Go have a mimosa.

It's almost like a liquid that kills your liver, gives you painful hangovers, and makes you do things that's out of character for you along with a negative to outright disastrous effect on your personal and professional life....

Is indeed not good for you and you should stay away from it.

<----- Ironically.

I'm sober as a personal lifestyle choice and I really don't feel like I'm missing out on anything special.

get a good buzz

This

I only drink on Fridays and Saturdays. I fix me a few stiff drinks and that'll last me an evening. I get to drink, get buzzed, feel happy, no hangovers.

The serious binge drinking that results in bad behavior and sickness the following day is not worth it as an adult.

The hangovers are just too debilitating. Misery. Anxiety. Waste of a day. Feel like a turd.

The older you get, the harder the recovery is. Even with my hangover-avoidance pack (drinking a bottle of water, taking two aspirin and a couple of multi-vitamins before bed), I still feel tired and worn out the next few days after drinking too much.

Problem is my hobbies travels and relaxation all inter mingle alcohol.

Find new hobbies or find ways to do them without alcohol (or at least without having more than one or two small drinks).

There are no negative aspects to cutting back or stopping entirely, if that’s what you want. Just don’t be like a vegan who proudly announces their veganism at every meal. If you discretely pass on an offer for a drink, no one will give you a hard time.

Set a realistic date and make a deal with yourself that you won’t have a drink before that date - no exceptions. If you can’t hit that goal, you might have a problem.
