If you're into bourbon, buy a bottle that costs a couple hundred. You won't want to drink more than one or two.

But for real I went to the game in Denver last week. After 2 days of hard drinking it took me a week to recover. Too damn old to party like that.

When I was in my 20's and 30's I was constantly harassed at parties for not drinking. I'd be there, having a great time, laughing and joking, and someone is constantly insisting I drink. WTF? A bunch of pussies who need everyone in lockstep in order to feel validated?

I’ve never understood it either. Always envied people who can have a good time with drinkers and not drink. Drinkers just piss me off when I am sober.

Honestly, alcohol is a crappy drug. The high is not that high relative to the Hangover. A couple drinks at a social occasion are fine but even a light buzz for me quickly turns into a headache and sleepiness.

Lol!

This is true. I drink about twice a week, usually 1-3 drinks and I still feel that's too often.

If I drank 4-5 nights a week, even just one or two drinks I'd feel like arse.

exactly. and the guy telling me "dont get out much do you"

well that makes sense if you are young and single. but most on here and are tlaking about debilitating hangovers...that usually means 30 somethings at least.

WTF is someone in there 30s doing drinking 5 times a week? I mean its one thing if its 1 glass of wine with dinner, but thats prolly excessive too. But IMO even if its a whiskey a night its way too much.

people on the OT wanna talk about fat acceptance, then come on here and pretend drinking 500+ in calories 5 times a week is normal. Talk about how weed releives pain. THey are in fricking pain cause they are fat as frick.

Same OT complains about kids being raised like shite now a days. Yet, they come home and drink 5 times a week.

OT complains about people being trashy, yet thinks drinking 5 times a week is normal and if you dont do that....you dont get out much.

OT needs to realize they are the fat, trashy, & bad parenting fricks they like to critize.

If you have Family/kids and you are consistently going out during the week to friends or drinking consistently 5 times a week...you are trashy as frick. If you are drinking 500+ calories a week in alcohol....99% chance you are a fat frick. If you are drinking 1-3 drinks 5 times a week....99% chance you are a terrible parent.

to the comment about getting out much...yea i do get out. I get my arse outside and play with my kids in the yard, bring them to practices, hit the gym, ride bikes as a family around the neighborhood.

if its a friday or saturday...have at it, but no reason to get plastered. Its fine to get drunk once a month or so, but even getting drunk drunk every weekend is too damn much.

Spot on.

I don't fault my mom for it because she was a single parent in a bad neighborhood until I was around 9, but as soon as she got married and had a little relief, they were out at the bars at least once a week, usually a few times. Didn't think much of it then, but looking back I couldn't imagine doing that even as someone with no kids with other things going on, wanting to stay in shape.

If I had kids? I don't see how one does that. Yeah, we didn't die staying home alone, but my sister was 13, I was 10 and we probably should have had some more supervision, even if the bar was "just down the road". Just because it happened to us doesn't mean the cycle should be perpetuated.

I get it, alcohol gives you a nice buzz. But if you're phoning it in on your kids to go have a drink, well....

I have found that I much more enjoy a smaller number of high quality drinks to downing 15-20 beers for a game now, which has bled into most drinking events/situations now. I like collecting/learning about bourbon and tequilla, and I always feel like a dumbass if I get hammered on something good, so It further makes me want to drink less and savor more. I have definitely had the same inner conversation with myself recently as well.

Been sober since April. It's been probably the best summer of my life. The plus side: People will look at you differently.

The minus: People will look at you differently.

For what it's worth, that's probably the worst thing about it. At least for me. Also, I haven't made some big announcement about quitting on facebook or other social media. I haven't told a lot of people about it. I just quietly moved on.

Let me know if you need any support and I'll give you some pointers.

Also, I haven't read a lot of this thread but I assume OP has probably gotten back to the drank. These "cries for help" after a football game are all too common so everything everybody is telling you in the thread is likely moot.

I went to rehab last year. Wad drinking all day, like vodka at 7 am till i passed out 7 days a week.

Had some slips but just hit 150 days sober yesterday. You definitely have to retrain your brain as you can do all the same things without drinking as I used to think the same thing. I still hunt and fish and its actually way better without the hangovers. The mornings seem brighter and sunrises seem better.

Me, you, and NIH pounded so many fricking espresso martinis before the LSU-Tennessee game in 2019 when we heard the news that Tremont would be out.

The older I get, the worse I feel when/after I drink. I really haven't drank much over the last 2 years. Have contemplated quitting completely. It wouldn't be hard for me to do, except for a couple occasions a year.

If you are drinking enough to be hungover, you are drinking too much. Alcoholism sneaks up on most people. If you can't enjoy a drink or two and stop you need to not drink at all for a while if not quit altogether.

It's really just a waste of money and time. There are better more productive things to do with both. If it's too engrained in your social group, start changing your social group.

Unless you count chicken wraps as a gateway drug.. I found myself eatin* a chicken wrap. Washed it down with a tea. Iced tea not Long Island.
