Pondering being a quitter. Drinking.

The juice just isn’t worth the squeeze anymore. I went out last night to watch LSU win. By no means did I go on a rampage, but I drank enough.
The hangovers are just too debilitating. Misery. Anxiety. Waste of a day. Feel like a turd.
If I do “tear it up” we are talking 2 days wasted.
Problem is my hobbies travels and relaxation all inter mingle alcohol.
Dear Facebook.

Can you not limit yourself to 1-2 drinks 4-5 times a week?

Have a drink, you’ll get over this.

Put down the booze, pick up a cigar.

Disassociate going out and having a good time from drinking (at least heavy drinking) and focus energy onto something else.
Easier said than done but gotta start somewhere, baby steps

If you can't drink without getting wasted then you shouldn't drink at all.

What I went through in my mid to late 40s.
6 years sober last December.

No they dont, and if you cant separate the two, go to rehab
Put the drink down... best thing I ever did

I have no problem with anyone who wants to drink and doesn't harm anyone else, but I just don't feel it's worth it anymore. I always end up feeling like shite more than I enjoy myself. I never made the decision, I just kinda stopped. I might have a drink every once in a while but never have the motivation to keep drinking past a drink or two.
Years ago I used to get shitfaced several nights a week and seek that escape.
Yeah, but unless you're hanging out with a group of rowdy drunks and you want to match the vibe of the room, you probably don't need to drink yourself. Or... just take some edibles.

You know drinks are not required to get on a plane or going to the pool

Doesn’t sound like you need to quit, just get better at it
Posted on 9/19/21 at 2:05 pm to LSU alum wannabe
You can have a few and not be hungover.

Yeah you should quit
If you cant enjoy a few drinks without feeling guilty about it then you have a problem

Was you several years ago. I started getting SVT if I drank to much and the hangovers just hurt to much. I just started cutting it out. I may drink two maybe three times a month and I limit myself to two beers.
I miss my drinking but I hate hangovers more. I think it’s an age thing.

I only drink during a gathering. LSU game, lake day, bonfire. Weekdays are a no go for me. Do what you feel is best for you.

There's some truth to that. I got to the point that I could (and did) drink heavily throughout the day. All day, every day. Never felt a buzz, never felt impaired. Only felt shitty when I didn't have a drink. Finally had to face the fact that I was a fekkin' alcoholic/drunk.
Against all the medical recommendations to be found anywhere, I quit cold turkey on my own. It was a miserable week-long experience of jitters, irritation, sleeplessness, etc., culminating with a few days of sudden episodes of an inability to form complete sentences or hold a thought. It was like having a stroke. (Mild to moderate DT's, they called it.)
I attended three AA meetings when I returned home from working out of town where I decided to quit. AA is extremely helpful and has a great record of success, but I found that I did better avoiding alcohol by turning my mind to other things rather than dwelling upon avoiding alcohol all the time. I'm not better than anyone else who has dealt with alcoholism and I'm not saying I'm above AA. It most certainly put things into perspective for me. Give it a shot to at least see whether it's helpful in putting the bottle behind you. It certainly can't hurt. And you won't be judged for it either. (You'd be surprised to find how many hugely successful people there are who are part of AA because they were once controlled by that liquid.)
