Reposting from before.. this is not a complete list, but this is a good plaice to start.

1) Charge your phones & tablets & batteries

2) Fill the Bath Tub with Water
(use it to flush toilet when water is turned off)

3) Find an axe.
(if you flood, you might need it to break the roof open to escape)

4) Make a Safe Room
(no windows if possible)
(put mattresses in front of windows)

5) Do not run a generator in your house or garage
(the Carbon Monoxide can kill you)

6) Fill up plastic cups with water and put them into the freezer.. or use jugs or just something..
(can use to keep food cold longer once the power goes out)

7) Put candles and flashlights and all stuff you might need in the safe room

8) Stay away from large trees outside
(they might fall on the house)

9) Remove all stuff from outside and move it into your house or garage. Chairs, Tables, anything can become a projectile. If you have a trampoline, take it down.

10) Drain your pool to 1/3 full
(don’t empty it or it might pop out of the ground)

I think the lack of evacuation is really going to hamper the speed of any infrastructure repairs as well.

Metairie and other areas were like Ghost towns the days after Katrina with no traffic on the roads - allowing utility trucks etc. the ability to move about quickly to get work done.

I am completely honest right now when I say I have 100x more respect for how Governor Blanco and Mayor Nagin handled the pre-storm public communications and evacuation than this whole current lot of clowns (and they will just use COVID as an excuse for not having to make any effort to offer any public services prior to the storm).

I surely hope those folks still in GI are at least sheltered at the school. That is the absolute only place strong enough for this storm.

#Ida's eye presentation on radar continues to improve as it approaches the coast, acquiring a "smooth" edge as opposed to bumpy. Significant storm surge flooding is already occurring in SE Louisiana even well in advance of landfall.

I imagine my in-laws from Meraux, who are holed up in Tallahassee, will be coming to stay with us in Austin for a week or more.

Since wobbles do matter in this situation, the last 3 recon fixes have Ida moving just slightly left of the NHC track. The highest surface winds are concentrated very near the center, so changes in damage will be very drastic over just even a few miles. Good luck everyone.

Whats the reasoning for this?

Always thought you leave the pool full and toss the loungers and pool deck furniture underwater so it doesn’t blow away

Even if we're looking at a Cat 5, slowing down of storm and immense size? I get that we're on the West side, but sheesh.

Dude, watch the local weather. Even KATC with Mr. Doom and Gloom himself, Robby P, is showing no worse than tropical storm force gusts and low rainfall amounts.

They didn't drop the Hurricane Warnings for most of Acadiana just for shits and giggles.

See my post above, but generally only the strongest storms get there.. Irma is probably the best example I can think of recently.

Michael and Dorian did as well, although Dorian wasn't a US landfall.
