Really liked what I saw from Murphy and Jones.

On the other hand Didi and Kira were pretty disappointing. Neither can shoot worth a shite.

Didi looked good on defense and can finish on the break pretty good but his outside shot is awful.

Most disappointing has to be Kira. He really never stood out other than one game and he was going against scrubs.

His shot still isn’t that good. He made some nice floaters in the earlier games but I just did not see as much progress as I was hoping.

As it stands, I dont think he should be in the rotation. Who’s minutes should he get?

Naji looked good when he wasn’t ball hogging.

Them I liked Alvarado too. Very feisty and a decent looking stroke.

Was there really any drop off between him and Kira? That’s what’s scary. If Kira was just a street free agent would we still be high on him? He’s fast but that’s about it

I didn’t watch the Kira game where he was shite (1-11 vs GSW), but his stock isn’t down as far for me. He looks better physically and he still is the fastest player on floor.

Willie’s style is that he’s going to want to run, and that’s where Kira excels. The shooting definitely needs to improve I agree, but I think we need more sample size with real minutes.

I have said this in other threads, but Kira's real offensive value is in the pick and roll. Last season, Kira + Jaxson had a very nice +/- together. This summer, however, Kira had no roll man. AP was just too slow to run P&R.

So, all these Kira takes based off of summer are just wrong. You aren't taking his skills and his teammates into consideration.

Kira is 3 years younger than Alvarado btw. No way Id even think about Alvarado ahead of Kira though.

With that said, Kira did a tough time I do agree. Griffen is very high on him and I do expect Kira to see a lot of time on the floor this year, but itll be in a backup rotational role that may come or go depending on his success.

Didi's handle and shot do not look NBA ready, and it doesn't seem like his defensive tenacity is enough to overcome that. Herb Jones seemingly fits into what was carved out to be Didi's role, but with better length and better basketball IQ. If Didi can't shoot, Herb Jones has his job.

Murphy looks like a gem.

Kira is enigmatic, you'll see some flashes here and there you can't say there is any consistent elite-level trait. I don't know where he fits in but I can't see him contributing much this year.

I think Kira has value as a role player (especially when paired with Zion, Jaxson, and shooters), but it’s hard not to be disappointed when guys like Pritchard, Maxey, Quickley, etc etc etc all can score the ball and get assists in the same summer league format.

I was listening to the Ringer Summer League podcast the other day and they were talking about the overall depth of the 2020 class showing out in summer league. They talked about nearly 30 guys from the class. Kira wasn’t mentioned and it’s not bc the Ringer hates the Pels or anything (they’ve been hyping Murphy and KOC has actually been complimentary of the Pels offseason in recent days), Kira just doesn’t stand out at all. You kind of have to hunt for his value and potential role, rather than it just being glaringly obvious.

Kira can’t really score on the professional level and it’s kind of puzzling bc he averaged about 19 a game at Alabama,

Luckily we have a lot of scorers on the team, but I still think not picking Bey or Maxey was a huge misfire. Imagine how we would feel with either one of those 2 on the roster right now vs Kira.

Yeah I’m honestly sort of out on Kira.

Maybe he has a remarkable training camp but the kid just feels a year away from being a year away.

And I’m no longer thinking that guy that will emerge from that process is going to be a starter in this league. My ceiling and floor has shifted down on both.

Honestly wouldn’t mind seeing him go to the G League and hope for the best. As of right now I’m not sure he really fits into the rotation given the players that are in front of him. Unless Griff is gonna force the issue like rumors were with SVG.

Being fast is cool on transition and to recover on defense but that's about it...
Many top players haven't elite speed (Jokic, current Lebron, Doncic, Harden, Lillard etc)

Yea speed for an NBA player is kind of like arm strength for a QB - extremely overrated. Like you need to clear a minimum amount to play professional but otherwise it’s not really an important physical gift.

Murphy and Marshall definitely a step above Kira.

Kira is definitely above Didi. Kira should get some back up minutes on the Pels determined on how he plays and practices.

Didi does not look like he deserves any Pels minutes and maybe should be playing G league this year. He doesn't shoot well, he seems lost sometimes, and I am not convinced he has above average athleticism for his size/position. Pels must see something in him that I have not seen thus far. From what I've seen, I'm not sure why he has two guaranteed years of pay. He needs to get a lot better to even deserve a bench slot.

It also helps you get to the rim and collapse a D.

Peak John Wall and Westbrook were the fastest guys in the league and got to rim effortlessly. Right now probably Ja and Fox are the two fastest guys, which is something we can all hope Kira can ascend near eventually. Hell, if he’s 75% of them he’ll be a serviceable player for us.

Cameron Payne is a hopeful kira lewis comp.
small fast guy who was 2nd round.
he's improved a little after years of not being worth a roster slot.
injury.
not in usa one year. china.
he was useful in playoffs because very fast and a tad better all around.
just signed for 6 million a year.
Payne is now better than kira.
kira needs to play pro ball.
kira being first round is not getting cut.
too bad. maybe kira could learn in China or spanish league vs solid pros.
send to Birmingham to open season.

so where's all the folks saying Kira could be D'Aron Fox one day now?

amazes me how i come up with an idea based on my observations, get told i'm wrong by almost everyone, only for everyone to jump on that bandwagon a few months later. It's almost as if y'all need me to plant the seed in you so you can actually watch what i'm watching, then over time, you start to see it for yourself.

and i still don't think Kira is a bad player and i never said he was, just that his cieling isn't quite as high as most of you were fantasizing about, and as Celt mentioned about Payne, Kira can still find a way to be a very serviceable player in the NBA, but he's far from it right now.
We simply didn't have much experience in rookies previously. Now that we've seen NAW, Jax, Kira, Trey, you can see the difference between someone with high potential and someone who might struggle a bit.
I said it to start the season, that rookies that are good will get minutes early no matter what, and they may struggle, but during that struggle, you can still see their potential, and it's why they continue to get minutes to work through it. Sometimes they need a few games to kind of sit back and observe, maybe work on a few things before being thrusted back out there, but there's a reason Kira was basically the last 1st round pick to get a meaningful minute to start the season, and it's not b/c SVG doesn't like rookies, it's b/c he didn't look ready in practice playing with NBA talent like so many other rookies did that got early minutes.

Kira has talent, but he seems very passive in how he plays, almost always deferring to everyone else, and you just can't have that mindset as a PG.
Tyrese Maxey was thrown into the playoffs and came out guns a blazing. That's a different mindset that we just haven't seen from Kira, and i think is his biggest hurdle right now.

When I see Kira he looks like a guy still trying to find his way. Think of NAW his first year in the league, he looked completely lost in his role, but while I think his play has been a little overstated, he certainly settled into a style of play last season that he was comfortable with.

I wasn't thrilled with Kira's play, I was hoping for more eye popping numbers, but I still think he has a lot of skill.

I’ll go old school on you, Leondro Barbosa. A career back up PG but just as important as a starter on his teams. If Kira could be that for the pelicans that’s a win in my book

Watching these interviews of Naji... does anyone else see him stepping into that role of being our Stephen Jackson or Lance Stephenson?

Not the most polished offensive game, but can score points if you leave him alone.. and just an annoying defender who won't give you any room to breathe while he's on the court..

Barbosa and Devin Harris are I think best case scenario for Kira.

Kira's potential has never been in being a great scorer or defender. He was one of the more effective players in college at running the P&R. His elite speed is something that will create cracks in the defense. When he's passing to Zion and Jaxson instead of Daulton Hommes and Anzejs Pasecniks it will be easier to see what he brings to the table.

He might never be a starter because of his size, and that's ok. You don't need him to be because you drafted guys like Nickeil and Murphy at 17. Drafting a non starter at 13 and blowing those other picks like the Pels would have done in years past and you have something to complain about. But the over all draft picture is still pretty good. In fact the major draft disappointment to me is that the Pels traded away all of their 2022 picks. Hopefully they'll get one back during the year.

The funny thing about Fox is that he was one of the worst players in the NBA his rookie year with qualifying minutes - he had a negative WS (was only one of 5 players with that distinction).

I think it's too soon for any sweeping takes on Kira regardless. I do think more shooting on the floor will increase spacing this year for us. That should help Kira's game - the more space he has, the better he will be in theory bc it's hard to stay in front of him.
