re: Sad that hardly anyone sends Christmas cards anymore.

I will tell you that respectable people still send Christmas cards to each other. I don't want to speculate why you are no longer receiving cards?
re: Data for you to ponder tonight: insurers are not the villain. Providers are

I'm sorry but how stupid are you, HailMichigan? I'm not sure if there is anyone dumber on TD and that is saying alot.
Let me describe UHC's business plan in terms that even an imbecile like you can comprehend:
1. Undercut other insurer's premiums --> consumer or small business thinks they are getting a better deal and switch to UHC to "save money" - this is the #1 way to make money - more premiums = easy cash flow.
2. Set up road blocks that disable consumer from acquiring health care required whether it be surgeries or medications by creating a convoluted system of prior authorizations, denials, etc.
3. If an insured manages to get through step #2, reimburse "provider" (this used to be called "doctor," but an insurance company might try to frame a nurse as equivalent because they don't have to pay them as much) less than competitors vis a vis shitty contracts
4.. Always pay as late and as little as possible. If the service is rendered on day 0, pay as close to day 90 as possible.
5.. Profit
A healthcare exec that can abide as closely to rules 1-5 will be most successful.
Another note, doctors have absolutely no control over what they charge for services - everything is set by the government's medicare fee schedule. There is no circumstance except for cash pay services (cosmetic, lifesyle, derm etc) that a doctor can decide to charge you an arbitary amount, the prices are set by uncle sam. Retard.

re: Is tennis the most unforgiving sport if you're 3rd or 4th best?
Posted by tigerfan4120 on 6/11/23 at 12:17 pm
I think so. As an example, I've not been the biggest Stefanos Tsitsipas but I literally felt bad for him on a personal level watching him play Alcaraz and realizing that he'll never win major tournaments as long as this guy who is 5 years younger than him is playing the sport. That has to be a bitter pill to swallow. You are one of the best 10 in the world, but won't reach the summit almost no matter what you do.

I did not watch at all but surprised he finally pulled off a tour level win. Maybe he is turning the corner on some of the mental and physical issues
re: Way to early US Open men’s single championship picks

If those 3 are out it's a wide open field but I would favor Alcaraz to win his first slam. I think he is better on hard courts than clay; other contenders would be Fritz, Sinner, Tsitsipas....

re: Response from my Human Resources Department

Most of the drugs listed were not developed by using cell lines. We did not have that biotechnology at the time most of those older drugs were developed. The blog links to studies on topics unrelated to drug development, far after these drugs were introduced, on specific conditions the drug is used to treat.
Thyroid supplement (levothyroxine) is the first one listed, and these are the citations the blogger is using to claim a link between thyroid supplement and cell lines:
DUOX2 Mutations Are Associated With Congenital Hypothyroidism With Ectopic Thyroid Gland (2017)
Homozygous loss-of-function mutations in SLC26A7 cause goitrous congenital hypothyroidism (2018)
It's a red herring, and insulting that your POS HR department sent you that, presumably as some sort of "gotcha" attempt. It should be countered with an equally condescending email.

re: Hedge Fund Billionaire Bill Ackman comes out in support of Kyle Rittenhouse

Bill Ackman is an a-hole for profiteering off Covid fear-mongering by using media to manipulate and distort facts, so pardon me if it’s hard to GAF about Bill Ackman bemoaning the media’s manipulation and distortion of facts.
Besides that, it’s a solid take.

Well, if you HAVE the 500K cash, it can still work for you. If the seller has your 500K, it cannot.
Yeah, you're underwater in the home, but you still have $260K you can deploy.
Deploy on what, an equity market that at the time had fallen into the shitter? So they would have been both underwater 240k on the financed home and the 260k they had "deployed" would have taken a >20% loss as well?
I think the main issue people ITT are having with you is you've taken the most basic concept of the time-value of money from Finance 101 and are talking down to everybody like you're the smartest guy in the room, while also rationalizing how you blow your cash on horse riding lessons for your little princess...

Funny you should mention 2008.
My step mother was absolutely allergic to debt of any kind. Which, frankly, served her and my father very well for most of their lives.
Then, in 2007, they moved to a community that was beautiful in Florida and paid a shade over 500K cash for a home. By the end of 2008, that exact model was selling on their street for $250K. The developer went bankrupt and the golf course fell into disrepair. The upgraded club house never materialized and in the end, they sold that home for just under $240K
A greater than 260K bath in their mid-60s.
I wanted to be mad at her but at the same time, I knew my dad was shite with money and the only reason they even had the 500K ish cash in the 1st place was her.
But still. It was stupid as frick
Not sure I understand your point here - if they had financed the home with a traditional mortgage, they'd still be 260k underwater on the home.
Also, philosophically I follow your point about not paying up front even if you could afford it when you could finance for 0%, but I goddam guarantee you that if you were a buyer, and negotiated a sales price to purchase the vehicle at 80k for 0% financing over 4-5 years, you could then go back to the dealer and say "actually, I can pay all cash upfront, but I'd like to negotiate a lower purchasing price," the dealer would listen. They have the same basic understanding of the time value of money as you do.
There's no free lunch; the folks financing at 0% are paying a higher price for the car, if the cash buyer negotiates properly.

couv, does your outfit do flat TPO roofing and clay tile?
One of these national companies, CMR Roofing & Construction, was canvassing my new orleans neighborhood after the storm. They offered to do a free inspection, so I took the guy up on it even though I was under the impression at that time my roof had weathered it just fine, as there was no frank water intrusion throughout the storm....
He did a relatively brief inspection but noted some soft spots on the TPO and some evidence of water intrusion into the attic. Quickly came to conclusion that I would qualify for a new roof, wanted their company to handle the claim, sign their contract etc etc. Not that the guy was dishonest, but it all came at me pretty quickly so wanted to take a step back and get another opinion.
I reached out to a local company that came highly recommended to come do an inspection, and they have not followed up with me and must be slammed. Now I'm thinking about circling back to the first guy, but still a little apprehensive about signing a contract with this non-local company and having them handle the claim.

re: Murphy and Jones stock up, Didi and Kira down
Posted by tigerfan4120 on 8/17/21 at 10:11 pm
Didi's handle and shot do not look NBA ready, and it doesn't seem like his defensive tenacity is enough to overcome that. Herb Jones seemingly fits into what was carved out to be Didi's role, but with better length and better basketball IQ. If Didi can't shoot, Herb Jones has his job.
Murphy looks like a gem.
Kira is enigmatic, you'll see some flashes here and there you can't say there is any consistent elite-level trait. I don't know where he fits in but I can't see him contributing much this year.

She may drink a lot because she watches your kids 3 days a week. Hire childcare or send your kid to daycare you bum, and maybe your MIL will sober up and become the person you want her to be.
