I don't think you're wrong in your opinion about Kira, but I also don't think the playing time thing is a definitive indicator of that

and i didn't mean it to be. It was just an early indication observation. It could have meant nothing. It meant nothing to CJ McCollum, who didn't play his first game until game 36 of his rookie year.

and i'll say it again, it's still too early to say anything definitive on him. Could he end up being Mike Conley, unlikely, but maybe. Could he be Schroeder, maybe. Is he more likely to be DJ Augustine, probably. but i think you really don't know truly what you have in a rookie contract guy until year 3, as most indications point towards that year being the breakout year for most players.

Kira's fast and has good basketball iq but his shot is very concerning.

I thought coming out he was a better shooter coming out of bama.

Rookie/young player nerves. Dude was a plus 80% ft shooter. He just needs to settle his nerves in live play. That is also affecting his decision making.

He is pushing too hard to make something happen instead of letting the game come to him. Once it slows down and his nerves calm he'll make some big strides.

If he can't handle those nerves in the summer league, how is he going to handle meaningful NBA minutes?

He's 20. He's played less than a full year.

You saw this with NAW where he'd play out of control, but he was finally settling in before the injury.

Summer league is still full of NBA players, speed, and coaching. It's still a higher level than college.

When he quits trying to force things and lets it come he'll be fine.

And how many P&Rs do you plan on him getting with the starting group?

So now we need a starting PG AND a backup. Nice.

Graham and Nickeil will start.

Kira is our backup PG and should run P&R with Jaxson, who is also a backup. The two of them together worked well last season and should do so again this season, because Kira's speed around the corner forces the big to commit, leaving the devastating roll of Hayes wide open. If the big goes deep into a drop, Kira floater is deadly.

It's important to have quality offense when Zion and/or BI are on the bench. Even when they are on the court, varying our plays keeps the defense from settling into the standard wall against Zion -- we don't need Zion to drive every single play.

I am not arguing about Kira's long-term development, which I agree is unclear. I am simply stating that he will get minutes next season and be valuable in his role.

To what? The rim? Our eyes? Lol.

I don’t disagree with Kira’s utility as a role player in certain lineups. But if the choice is Jaxson lob or Kira floater/layup, the defense should generally take their chances with Kira bc he is only average at the rim and he’s literally god awful, borderline unwatchable from the 3-10 ft range. Jaxson Hayes literally has a better chance at hitting a 24 footer on a pick and pop than Kira has at hitting a semi contested 4 foot floater.

who is backup pg if kira needs to sit?
memphis has two extra pgs they are looking to move.
tyus Jones. ucla pg
5 to 1 assists to turnover.
best in nba 2021.
2nd year with high assists to turnover.
slo mo. Kyle anderson.
was also pg at ucla.
sf starter on playoff 2021 griz.
ask and ye shall receive.
send out laker/Milwaukee firsts.
get an adult pg.
or two.
each on last year of deal.
I guess satoransky is pels backup pg.
good enough for a contender.
did not look like 6th man on champ in games I saw.
neither did tyus jones. he was not ready for utah series. choked. offense eluded him. back to bench.
slo mo was good in playoffs.

We have quite a few guys who can fill the PG role on this roster:

Graham
Kira
Satoransky
Temple

NAW could as well

NAW never looked that bad in Summer League.

Summer league is also full of players who will never sniff the NBA. Are the players better than college? In general, yes. The G League may have better talent, though.

Kira's issue is within 5-12 feet when a big is in front of the basket underneath the rim.

Kira's floater isn't good right now. He can get it off but the touch isn't there. He needs major work in his 5-12ft zone.

He's good when he get within 5 feet. That's when he has a high percentage layup with his speed. He generally is real good beating the on ball defender but things tend to go downhill when a big meets him outside of 5 feet out and forces him to throw up a rushed shot which is usually his floater.

I'm hoping that he'll be a lot more effective with high level roll guys. We saw him flashed it last season.

In your scenario if the big doesn't rotate and defend the paint, Kira should theoretically be able to get underneath the basket for an easy layup. Kira does a good job of collapsing the defense, but I think things will be better for him with better finishers on the court with him.

Still as a role player, his value off the bench is really to get the team into their sets and start running the offense. Hopefully with a larger sample size and consistent playing time, he'll find his shot and find some consistency.

There's time before camp and I'm sure the staff and review his play and have him work on certain weaknesses before October gets here.

I think Kira's comp is Bobby Jackson. Took him a while to learn to play within himself but he's the same size and had blazing speed. Jackson etched out a nice, long NBA career as a backup and Kira can do the same. Just needs to limit some of the stupid arse turnovers.

Kira is so not Bobby Jack. Not physically strong like Bobby and likely wont ever be regardless of his physical maturation. Kira, at least now, does not drive with intentions of creating physical contact like Jack. Nor does he shoot with confidence like Jack, currently. People forget, but it seems like B Jack was the 1st to consistently use the step back to create space for his jumper. Step back Bobby Jack was always said on SportsCenter (Craig Kilborn) when he played for the Kings. Nostalgia.

If Kira comes close to Bobby Jack during his career, and stays with the Pels, we will be contending for years to come.

Kira needs to be on the floor with Jaxson and Hart. Kira runs P&R with Jaxson, and Hart gets the defensive rebounds when Jaxson fails to box out.

When those three played together last season, they had a point differential of +12.3 points per 100 possessions, according to Cleaning the Glass. That's in the 96th percentile.

And, yes, those three play well with Zion, but they also play well without him.

I want that trio to get minutes together on a nightly basis. They really complement each other.

And are y'all really freaking out because Kira didn't shoot that well in a few games of summer league? Anyone can have a good shooting game or a bad shooting game. Don't draw too much from such a small sample. If you want to draw a conclusion from summer league, then keep in mind that Kira's defense looked improved, and he posted the best +/= of the team.

Kira's Summer League shooting wouldnt be a problem if it werent for the fact that it is an ongoing trend. He's just not a good shooter at this point and that doesn't look to have changed much. More concerning is it was poorer than last year in a venue that a lot of players easily found success inflating their percentages.
