Ole Miss announced their partnership with Progressive too.

Only two SEC teams that they’re doing it with

Big Two confirmed.
90% of the offense is the same so I doubt there is much dropoff and Trinidad is a cheat code.

2027 will be an interesting litmus test on the loss of Weiss / prowess of OM OC John David Baker because from all accounts it will be Deuce Knight as the starting QB.

I am not very familiar with how all of the process works in regards to payments. Is ole miss suing the player for a loss of capital? Penalty for breaking the terms of the contract?

Genuinely asking as one trying to understand the scope of the headlines.

How did Ole miss set up the payments? Was it half up front, full amount, or had the players received little to zero money from the contract when they bailed?

Without seeing the full terms or payment transfers it's impossible to know.

The bottom line is that if the contract is written solely how OM reported it to be, then there is a breach of contract. So in layman's terms yeah it's a defacto penalty, but having a penalty for breach of contract is not unusual so I'm not sure what else needs to be debated.

If Harper and PW's representation or whomever else provide full contract details that include all mitigation or other details written in the signed documentation, then there may be alternative resolution.

Not necessarily. The court has several factors to take into account that may affect the degree of financial responsibility.

Under contract law, liquidated damages are only legal if they represent a reasonable estimate of actual financial harm. Ole Miss would have to prove the value of replacing them and harm suffered through the period of roster destabilization to justify the agreed "buyout."

Next, courts have been hostile toward rules or agreements restricting an athlete’s economic mobility. Placing potential pressure on players to sign these agreements and their exorbitant exit terms could be viewed by the court as the creation of an illegal non-compete clause.

To Sidewalk's point, a valid contract requires consideration (something of value given by both sides). The suit shows the players signed these agreements in early Jan 2026 and entered the portal just days later. If the players received no tangible financial benefit from OM under that revenue sharing extension agreement, the contract may be ruled void.

There are a variety of other ways the final cost may be reduced or mitigated, as well. But, the point is there is nothing certain or open and shut in contractual law or court cases in general.

IMO, most likely scenario is a negotiated settlement and it never sees court. If it goes to court, I could see the judge ruling that the actual losses to UM do not justify the price tag and he orders a reduced debt to be paid. The wildcard would be the judge ruling the contract was a violation of law due to restriction in mobility or its creation of an unjust penalty clause, and the players walk away free and clear.

At the end of the day, the whole thing mirrors the evolution of college sports. It is ugly and detrimental to the overall value and fan interest of the sport

In general yes but we don't know what exact language is in the contract, so this is mostly speculation. For liquidated damages to apply they have to be cited specifically as provisions to the contract.

OM likely would not go down this path if there was a decent chance for mitigation or a bought-down settlement.
The players had to believe LSU would pay their buyouts when it came to this point.

LSU must be cooking up some voodoo legal strategy or something, because I can't understand why two football players would transfer knowing they'd have to pay back this money out of their own pockets.

The way Golding did it though should warrant a steep penalty. Others do it but don’t blatantly do it the way dipshit Golding did it

The max penalty for tampering is a L2 violation .

Dabo is just a baby back bitch that the entire CFB is laughing at because everyone does it (expect Clemson apparently).
Live look at Dabo’s “tampering trap”:

It’s so funny that Clemson finally (years too late) decides to dabble in the portal just to realize that it’s the Wild West and they don’t have the stomach to handle the ups and downs.

What a bunch of ignorant hayseeds lolol.
Dabo being a whiny dinosaur - shocking he hates this era because it doesn’t serve him.

It's smart for someone like him to flop - he's so physically big and strong if he doesn't flop, the refs will never call shite.

What will be the Bama-Clemson of the NIL/ 12 team playoff era?

There is none which is the beauty of this era... we are in the NFL lite / parity era.

This shite is moving target though - who knows what will happen in the next 2-3 years if things change.

Didn’t want anyone else

Chambliss
Lacy
Echoles
Carneiro

Top are the 3 best players on the OM roster and the best kicker in CFB.

LSU did well landing PW tho - feels like the biggest steal but Lou Spanos coached PW and his brother at OM so it makes sense.

then he would’ve gone to Penn state or Auburn.

Doesn't like cold weather and Auburn is a terrible fit culturally.

If LSU never comes open who knows tho.

Ole Miss is a much better job in this era

True, but Lane was looking to GTFO. He sent his family to Gainesville and BR on the same weekend to look at houses.

Family doesn't get sent anywhere if they intend to stay.

If lsu didn’t open up he probably stays in oxford

He would have begrudgingly taken the UF job - although he likely would have fought with Stricklin tooth and nail about Glasscock coming with him instead of hiring Caldwell for GM.
Ole Miss fans are fine - if Lacy/Chambliss left for LSU then I would get the justified angst.

I'm sure they would have preferred to keep Princewell and Dottery, but those guys aren't make or break type players to the level of Chambliss or Lacy, who would have caused a level 99 freak out.
Miami was the better team - they were favored and had big trench advantages that Ole Miss was forced to scheme around.

Miami outplayed Indiana too (post-game win expectancy says so).
Considering how the typical coach in NIL/transfer clown era who changes job purges the former roster (see Matt Campbell who took like 30 ISU guys to Penn State), losing only 4 to LSU seems fine for Ole Miss. Would have expected more especially offensive guys TBFH.
Are we still confused why Ole Miss wouldn't want the LSU coach coaching their team in the playoffs and tampering around their football building during recruiting/portal season?

Are people really this stupid?

(that's a rhetorical question because yes, yes they are)
