What is the reason for this? Why spend so much of Athletic Department resources on scholarships and international recruiting for foreign athletes instead of U.S. citizens, who pay those expenses

Winning, plain and simple. You get the best and most dedicated players that rules allow. Do you want to run a subsidized daycare for less talented American athletes?

At one point Carson Wentz was the second coming, and Peyton Manning went 3-13 with 28 interceptions his rookie year.

So, we don’t know, but he’ll probably have a career somewhere in between those two.

Agree with most of what you say on this thread but not this. Considering the available talent we left on the board there, I disagree. We could’ve had a nickel or IOL starter. Delp has to be more than a role guy for that selection to be a win.

Mickey didn’t want to fire his blow buddy DA but look at what’s happened since he did. He should be rewarding AK, not complaining about him.

He’s top of the heap for sure, but he doesn’t get to where he is without those who came before him and played around him.

He won’t prove me wrong because I never have nor will have a thought for him.

10:1 upvotes would say otherwise.

And it’s Saints Talk. Everything here is regurgitated nonsense analysis. If you want purely original and professional reviews, you’re in the wrong place. Go check out YouTube (where I watched a bunch Harris highlights).

Watched a lot of Ole Miss. He’s a monster with good athleticism for his size. Can stack blockers, penetrate, and get down the line. Needs to be more consistently urgent, doesn’t always get off the line fast, has a tendency to play too tall. Maybe some lower body strength needed. Hard to know what he was supposed to do in the scheme though. He definitely has NFL size and athleticism.

Wow. Thats an amazing UDFA pickup. I thought he was a good option in the 4th before we grabbed Miller #2.

For instance?

You can’t argue that we’ve kept more talent than we’ve let go.

The problem is they don’t keep the great players. Hicks, Ellis, Hendrickson, Baun, Onyamata.

Mickey has been atrocious when it comes to keeping the right guys vs the free agents he has brought in. Or the bums he’s resigned. Thomas, Peat, Ruiz.

#1 at draft, #32 at second contract management.
You kind of have to define the production to get an answer, no? A guy with his RAS can be day 1 or 2 easy if they’re double digit sacks in SEC. Or they can be UDFA if they don’t produce

Wright is a backup. We will grab a true starting RG next year with the 32nd pick.
Really like their draft except for Sharp who is a fumble waiting to happen.
Grade: B-

Tyson and Delp could be game changers, but we’re expecting very different outcomes in the NFL vs college: one to be consistently available, the other to actually be a productive part of the offense. Possible scenarios, sure. But both likely? Not so sure.

Would have preferred Downs in the Tyson spot or a trade down for Lemon/Conception/Cooper with more 3rd round firepower. In the Delp spot, the early impact second tier guards and nickels were all there.

Like the additions of Lance and Brown. We knew with a deep WR draft we were gonna have these opportunities, really like the athleticism and return game improvement.

Love Miller in the second. And swapping pick 150 for a one year Tyree rental is a decent upside bet too. We got better at stopping the run for sure.

Wright is a project. If he ends up with playing time this upcoming year, ehhh. Pass rush poor in college. He’s a draft lynchpin. If he ends up being a dude who can open up running lanes and hold his own in pass pro, oline is set.

Waited too long for a solid secondary guy. Our picks are likely practice squad or special teams. Maybe they are limited scheme guys. Don’t hate these pics per se but definitely deprioritized the glaring secondary need. Feels like we’re gonna be calling that out at some point this year. Mickey always give us a sign no-brainer omission.

Zero sniffs at LB, one group really lacking depth. Passed on some guys who slipped later than expected too.

Pass rush need, what pass rush need?

Maybe becoming more explosive offensively and improving in the defensive run game is good enough and this is a multi year rebuild. But after an offseason adding a bunch to the RB/WR/TE room, to add four more feels like “throw a lot at the wall and see what sticks”strategy, which meant less shots for other weak spots. If Tyson becomes a top 15 type WR and Delp a legitimate three down guy, you’re in B+/A- range and if Wright or Tyree click then it’s obviously A/A+. But today you’ve piled investment into offensive explosiveness with two key guys needing to transcend their college showing and you missed on some value in other places of need.

This is one of my favorite movies of the draft. Whether he sticks around and gets a lot of sacks is beside the point. He’s going to be on the active roster and help in the run stop game. You get a full year tryout for how he is in the locker room and what his issues might be. Raiders might be happy let them go, but that’s just because they’re pissed for having wasted so much draft capital on him. If they picked him in the fifth round three years ago, they’d be happy to have him on the team.
Great post.

I think the biggest miss in the draft was overlooking CB / nickel talent. Styles is a project and Hall is athletically limited.

I’m hedged. If Tyson plays up to billing I’m very happy to be a moron. But it doesn’t change my opinion today on the choice.

I made a few but I don’t think I posted here. One theme in all of them was take the upside gambles later. Really like Delp, Lance, Styles, Brown picks.
