He just scored 36...Do all 67 of you still feel the same way about this kid?

Like SFP said, he just wasn't what the Pels needed, so I'm not ripping on him when I say scoring 36 points in summer league is pretty meaningless. Here are the top 5 individual game scorers in summer league history:

47 - Anthony Morrow (Golden State Warriors, 2009)
42 - Tied, three players
Anthony Randolph (Golden State Warriors, 2009)
Von Wafer (Denver Nuggets, 2007)
Marcus Banks (Phoenix Suns, 2007)
40 - Furkan Korkmaz (Philadelphia 76ers, 2018)

LINK

I'm not even sure if anyone in that group was good enough to be called a journeyman.

I think Cam Thomas is in a good situation in Brooklyn to do what he does well and not worry about what he does poorly. You should be happy he's there instead of here. If he didn't go to LSU you wouldn't care at all that the Pelicans drafted Trey Murphy instead, because Murphy looks like a near perfect fit for what the Pels have been missing.

I think a decent amount of people acknowledged and respected what Cam Thomas brings to the table in this thread. You got downvoted for death for insinuating that we should’ve picked him at 17 and that he will be a “perennial allstar”.

Sure he just dropped 36. That’s great. But it was also on 25 shots. You think he’s going to get 25 shots a game when playing with Harden, Kyrie, Durant and Joe Harris?

Also, you are ignoring the fact that the guy we picked 17 also had a stellar summer league and fits what our team needs more than Cam Thomas.

Trading back up into the first for Cam in the late first or drafting him at 35 if he fell there would’ve been sweet and I think a solid number of people were hoping that would happen.

You are getting downvoted to death due to the way you framed the thread and also your overall overexuberance. Cam Thomas is going to be a player in this league, but he will not be an all star and it was not a mistake to pick Murphy over him.

We have Zion and BI to take 25 shots a game. We needed a lower usage complimentary player that can guard multiple positions and also knock down shots at a high percentage while only getting about 8-10 attempts a game. Cam Thomas is not that guy.

Here is downvote number 70 for ya.

I’d take Murphy over Cam Thomas every single time

Kid should have went way higher in the draft. I watched every game he played. Will be an elite shooter, gets to the basket at will, gets to the line, and shoots 90%. I don’t know what people are seeing but this kid will be a top 15 scorer year in year out for at least a decade.
He is only 19 years old. I hope Trey is better cause I’m a Pels fan but we wouldn’t have done wrong drafting Cam.

his assists were low and rebounds nothing special. defense nothing special.

murphy3 at 17 is a complete player.
not the shooter but checks every box.

I wish we would have drafted Thomas. I even said it before the draft. I don't want him instead of Murphy, though. I wish we could have used some of our seconds to move up and get him. He won't make or break this team, but he has a very good shot at a good career in the NBA.

Everything the Pels do is going to haunt them until the day they're officially the Seattle Supersonics. Then they'll win a title or something just to complete the heartbreak. So don't be afraid of Cam slipping out of their hands. There's a lot more eggs to break that will be monumentally disastrous than something as small as that.

He shot 10-25 and got to the line 10 times. Where do you see him getting those shots on this team?

Frank Korkmuz or whateve his name is scored 40, morrow scored 47 in summer league. These guys are end of bench players or out of the league. These people upset about Cam not coming here have never watched summer league before

Cam will make for a great 6th man in this league barring some miraculous improvement in every other aspect of his game. We however do not need a 6th man. We need starters

Murphy won't crack the two deep this coming season..

This might be the worst take of the new team, new season, thus far. And its gonna be tough to top it. Too funny.

So the Pels drafted a player, just outside of the lottery, who has a defined, particular skill (shooting) that is imperative to further unlocking Zion's potential and said player considerably outperformed expectations,by any measure, of even the most ardent believers in his talent before SL? Plus, Griff's job is on the line this year and thats who the brain trust felt could contribute the most to saving it and appeasing Zion's desire to improve as a team?

I guess you think Wendell Gabriel is on his way to being an ALL-Star this year or that the Pels will rue the day they traded Bledsoe bc he's about to be a finalist for MVP...

Dude, you must be trolling. If not, u might wanna switch your sport of choice to curling or Dock jumping bc your lack of competent evaluation of basketball talent is alarming. No joke.

That was completely random.

I like Murphy. He has looked really good. So hopefully he finds his niche on the team.

But he isn't going to play much this year. We have a logjam at SF. We just paid Hart a ton of money and Marshall is a great young player. I don't think Murphy can take minutes either of those.

When we went into the draft, we had big holes at SG and back up PF. Murphy can play SG. But it's not where he is projected. I do not believe that he will take the spot from NAW or be the primary back up there.

So who does Murphy bump from the rotation?

You do realize that Hart is a SG right? And calling Naji a great young player is a stretch. I like Naji and think he can be a player in this league but what Murphy can bring to the table trumps Naji.

Why do people keep saying Murphy is a SG? He's more a PF than SG.

Did you not see him manning up PFs in SL?

He's the primary backup to Ingram and Zion imo.

Hart will be the backup SG.

Who's getting bumped? Marshall. NAW and Murphy have nothing to do with each other. Completely different positions and roles.
