I like how married fathers get to decide how much money they will spend on their children and in what ways but the minute you aren’t married you become an agentless money tap that should STFU and hand over a blank check.

Here’s the only facts we have concerning this domestic situation:
About the Dad
Paid all of his child support
Has been ostracized from the daughter for a long while
Paid the final $800.00 by dumping pennies in the mom’s yard
Admits to letting his emotions overrule good sense
About the Mom
Primary Custodial parent (possibly exclusive)
Allowed the final payment to go to the Shelter
About the Daughter
Hasn’t been close to the Father for a long while
Suggested donating the money to the Shelter
From this scant amount of information, none of us can ascertain if the Mom’s a good person or otherwise. She has raised two kids without the Dad (with meager child support).
From this information, none of us can tell if the guy is an a-hole or a good guy who did one shitty newsworthy thing. He has dutifully paid his required child support.
From this information, none of us can tell if the daughter is a jerk or a good kid. Maybe she and the Mom are terrible. Maybe she and the Mom are wonderful.
The only hard evidence we have here of anyone doing anything ugly is of the dad’s actions.
That was a rookie move on his part, even if the ex-wife and kids were horrible, his stunt comes off as a bad look for him.
Glad I’ll never have that kind of drama in my life.

The dad is the type of a-hole to settle his debts with pennies. No doubt that bleeds over to him being an a-hole elsewhere in his life.

As someone pointed out, we don't know the whole story. However, a way to say he was a wife beater without having any proof is to do exactly what they did.
The public airing of their personal shite is too much for me.
