So now you want to subsidize selected farmers and punish, or at least disincentivize, others.

We already do that.

Isn't this just another form of government interference, picking and choosing economic winners/losers and also rife for fraud and abuse? Donate to the right politicians and your farm products are on the approved list.

We already do that, too.

Farming, on a large enough scale, is a tricky business that can be more like college sports recruiting than the noble career path it is held up to be. If you're going to farm, hire a very good bookkeeper that you can trust with your life.

How is this even possible?

It’s because a few years ago Louisiana deemed if the majority of the kids in a school district receive free lunch then all kids going to that school receive free lunch. That’s why the number is so skewed.

If they would make them do something for the money, it wouldn't bother me so. Have them walk along the street and pick up trash for a few hours a day when not in class.

I’m trying to figure out if we are going to get one of these debit cards. If we do it will be the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. Kid in EBR school (magnet program). All EBR kids are eligible for free meals because of the percentage of kids in poverty in the parish. It sounds like we may get one because we live in EBR amd our kid goes to a public school.

We absolutely do not need to be reimbursed for the food we bought while school was being held virtually. There should be some sort of individual application process to ensure these cards aren’t going to upper middle class families like ours. I guess we will get a tiny bit of our tax dollars back for once.

Free for some because of the taxes paid by others.
Nothing from the government is “free”.

I used to complain about EBT news. Then I looked up the qualifications for getting EBT, including having a maximum $2250 in cash assets.

The people on EBT deal with cash. The $2250 in cash assets is easy for these people to hide. Who is really enforcing and verifying that these people go over that threshold?

But there’s no evidence that government handouts increase the numbers of children born to women who simply game the system and pop out babies.

Approximately 699,000 students — or 87% of all students across the state — receive free or reduced lunch, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

Not defending Louisiana. But, does this include kids getting free lunch due to Flood, Hurricanes, and COVID? There are entire districts who are getting free lunch due to disasters. Kids who ordinarily wouldn't be getting free or reduced lunch.

A lot of districts were on free lunch due to covid, floods and hurricanes. Not sure if that is impacting the numbers.

I believe Livingston Parish is 100% Free due to Floods of 2016.

Last year, nearly 200,000 who were eligible didn't apply, officials said. This year, the state made changes to allow school districts to directly report who was eligible so families could bypass the application process.

So if you don’t apply for a handout, we’re going to force the schools to apply for you. “You will take the handout!”
