Families of nearly 260,000 students in Louisiana will soon receive a new debit card pre-filled with funds for groceries this summer, following the reauthorization of a federal program aimed at helping kids who couldn't access free or reduced-price meals in their schools during the pandemic.
Some students will be eligible for up to $1,200 from the Pandemic EBT, or P-EBT program, depending on how many months they learned from home during the 2020-21 school year.

Last year, nearly 200,000 who were eligible didn't apply, officials said. This year, the state made changes to allow school districts to directly report who was eligible so families could bypass the application process.

Approximately 699,000 students — or 87% of all students across the state — receive free or reduced lunch, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

Where was I when the OT was optimistic about anything but a giant gas station chain?

Why work?
Legit frick these people. Taking away incentive to work and provide for your family. Government will do it for you.

the application process.
This wouldn't include showing a photo ID, would it?

If you want to do this DURING the “pandemic”, fine. But obviously they were able to eat without the debit card back then, so why do it now? It’s like getting paid for lost wages. So stupid.

Now I can buy all my seafood with one like the others do everyday.

That's the craziest part. They don't even have to apply. The government is just sending money out in the mail. MY money. I am thinking about just not paying federal taxes anymore. They are just wasting it.

I used to complain about EBT news. Then I looked up the qualifications for getting EBT, including having a maximum $2250 in cash assets.
If all the cash on hand a family has in this world then they probably do need help feeding themselves. Of course they may need help wiping their own asses too. But, if we're keeping chronically ill, genetically mutated, never gonna be of use to society, crippled up, folks alive perpetually, why not these also?
Disabled is disabled whether physical, mental, genetic, or any other kind of disability. If we as a society are determined to keep one class alive then equal treatment for all classes of disabled is the only way to do it.
Once we do away with Survival of the Fittest we sign on to feed everybody. So, pick your poison. Lots of dead and lots of healthy with no in-between, or an even distribution across the entire spectrum.
