maximum $2250 in cash assets

This can’t be verified for a person who has no bank account so all they have to do is report they don’t have it.

Holy shite! We are doomed!

In a state like Louisiana, where middle and upper class families, even lower economic class families sacrificing, send their kids to private schooling for education, and Catholic schooling even because of the heavy Catholic instilled faith in the area, those numbers are probably reflect much higher than if all students were attending the government/public schools.

Not saying Louisiana still wouldn’t be on the very high end of the spectrum compared to the rest of the US, but I do think there’s the private/parochial school proponent as well.

Because they didn’t need. Only the government wouldn’t view this as a positive. Do you think if they were actually hungry they wouldn’t have applied? The state wants some on the tit whether they need it or not.

This year, the state made changes to allow school districts to directly report who was eligible so families could bypass the application process.

That's only what they report and what can be found. Doesn't mean that's all they have.

I know people who have full time jobs, both parents but report they're not married and get full government child care assistance.

There is no putting the toothpaste back in the tube. The people have tasted free and they want more.

That's an amazing stat to me. So 700k kids receive free lunch. If you figure there are 4 people (just a guess) in each of these homes that's over half of the state's population living in homes that can't afford $2 lunches.

I used to complain about EBT news. Then I looked up the qualifications for getting EBT, including having a maximum $2250 in cash assets.

And you think this is something that is heavily looked into or even enforced?

Those types are why shooting deaths in the hood are so high.

Live in area where peoples shoot each other over a $5 dice game and keep $thousands of unreported cash on hand? Or they've got to live without a mortgage because how is anyone with so little verifiable income to qualify for EBT going to qualify for a mortgage without a bank account. (and how about verifying the down payment without it being banked? "Oh I had a good night at the casino"? Need casino receipt too.)

Not many people with a few thousand are not going to have it banked. So we're talking outliers, not 200,000 statewide.

Again, not gonna be 200,000 statewide, anecdotal individual outliers.

Occasionally articles appear in news where these outliers cheating the system get caught and punished including restitution as well as jail time. Sure the time may be token but then again the criminals are the caretakers for families so it may not be advisable to turn the kids over to the state.

Google returned a bunch of results for "EBT Fraud Sentenced" (duckduckgo actually which unlike google doesn't give me a literal # of results in x seconds)

I don’t have the data on hand, but I’d be willing to bet they meant:

“87% of all public school students across the state- receive free or reduced lunch”

It looks like the longer you had to do online learning the more money you will get. So this will, of course, help only democrat areas because they avoided in person learning the most

Jesus Christ. There was an ability to get free/reduced price food for the kids but the parents had to apply and 200,000 didn’t?

So now, whether then even make them put forth the minimal amount of effort to get something quite literally vital to their children’s lives, we are just going to issue them free money?

frick this welfare state and complete abandoning of personal responsibility.

They just throw it out to everyone.
