I have a hard time believing Mulkey would come here, mainly because I'm not sure LSU would be willing to match her $2.2 million/year salary, or that she really has much interest in building another program. She has one of the three best programs in women's college basketball RIGHT NOW, and has won 3 NCAA championships the past 15 years, including the one we lost to them in '05.

So many of you are off the rails. The money and tax bases and all else that you are getting tied up in fits is irrelevant. Kim Mulkey will come to LSU for two reasons and only two reasons : Louisiana is home and her momma is here. she knows she can turn LSU into a power again, whether that equals what she built at Baylor remains to be seen. The WBB landscape is a lot different now than it was 15 years ago. There is more parity at the top and LSU has been relegated to the second tier. Family will determine where she closes out her illustrious career and being able to resurrect LSU in her home state while looking after her mother has to be mighty appealing. LSU can make it happen and it may not take matching her current salary, but if so the hire will pay for itself in short order.

Wade has the Men’s BBall team covered mate.

If Kim is coming here to coach any Men’s team it should be baseball. She probably knows a bit because her son was on the team a few years back, also Pawl sucks at this point. It wouldn’t take much to be an upgrade over him.

Kim will build a recruiting base in louisiana. The talent is here and wants high school ages young ladies see her program there will be a transformation in woman’s basketball in this state. WBB can be a revenue producer under Mulkey.

I fully believe that Mulkey would relish the opportunity to coach in the SEC. She has kicked the Big-12's arse for a decade. There is nothing left to prove over there. With the exception of South Carolina, the SEC is up for grabs. The right coach can have LSU contending for the top 4 in no time.

She's 58. Does that not worry anyone else? She will have full on rebuild job on her hands. Does she have the energy for that at this age?

I agree with you that this all boils down to if she wants to return home, retire here, and do something big for her state once again.

However, her mom isn't here anymore. She actually lives with or by her in Texas.

Does she have the energy to coach basketball at 58? Lol. Warren Buffet is 90 and runs an 870 billion dollar company. I think a 58 yr old can handle a basketball team.

I have never felt older than just now.

Warren Buffet is a freak of nature but he also isn't building something from scratch.

58 is not a spring chicken in coaching and LSU is a complete rebuild unfortunately. I'm not saying she can't get it done, but I'm not sure there are many more time and energy intensive jobs than being a head coach for a major college sports program. Recruiting is 24/7/365.

The pressure would be less than a men's sport so that's good.

A couple years ago when Arkansas hired Neighbors I had it 4 days before it happened and the same person who is in the know in the SEC wbb news told me about this news! He also called Ralph to Vandy! And Vic to Texas! I feel pretty good about this!

As of mid day Saturday, no one from LSU has called, offered or even spoken to Kim about the job.

That is a fact.

What can we do to get her here?
Call or email Scott Woodward, the Athletic Dept, TAF. Let them know the support and following she brings. I dont think LSU has a good understanding of the impact she would bring to the program, the University or even the State.

This can be one of the greatest coaching hires in Woody's tenure at LSU.

It would be negligent to miss this opportunity.

a full rebuild in basketball isn't nearly the same as football, where you need 25 recruits every year for a few years to turn over the roster.

That can be done almost instantly in basketball, and her name alone would bring the players in year 1.
