I hope politicians have no regard for idiots refusing to take this. Is that realistic? Probably not. Maybe in Texas and Florida

but its effectiveness numbers seem to be well-below those of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines

Keep in mind that the other two clinical trials were against the original strain. JJ went up against the new variants.

Why is it silly in your opinion?

The purpose of the vaccine is the same as the polio vaccine. The more people vaccinated = smaller viral load/less severe transmission. We never eliminated polio, just made it less severe if contracted through widespread vaccination.

It also helps open things the rest of the way back up.

If you don’t get vaccinated and don’t catch COVID, you’re not doing shite to reduce transmission.

Polio has been eradicated- except in some countries of Asia (and that’s a mess).

If you’re vaccinated or have had it, what does it matter whether or not I have the vaccine?

I’ll take one of the first two that Americans could get because I know a few people that have had both doses and are just fine with no side effects, I’ll pass on a company that I think was sued for giving people cancer with baby powder.

That’s the point. We eradicated it here with a robust vaccination program. The vaccine doesn’t completely eliminate your ability to catch the virus. But it weakens it enough that it can eventually die out when there’s not any viable hosts.

Because it reduces the viral load if you do catch it. Which helps eradicate it or reduce its severity. Again, the vaccine doesn’t completely stop transmission (many vaccines are like this).

In terms of “stopping the spread of COVID”?

No, and the data seems to clearly support the idea that heavy handed governance accomplished nothing but help severely harm this nation, her economy, our education systems, and our trust in the authorities across the broad spectrum of knowledge bases.

Florida seems to be just fine right now after mostly laughing off the notion that they needed draconian measures to give the illusion of protection from a virus, for example.

Correct.

I will pass on it just like I have passed on taking any of the rushed vaccines for a virus that has less than a 1% chance of killing me

Also correct.

the problem isn’t one shot vs. two, it’s people willing to get vaccinated vs those who don’t. Offering a 66%ish effective rate vaccine, vs a 95% effective rate seems random.

Some people may be more inclined to take this one vs the mRNA ones.
