I had an exam that day not far away, so I showed up to watch the show to procrastinate studying for an hour or so.

There was some guy who used to bring his guitar out there and sing really nasty songs he had written about the female Student Body President.

All I remember about it was the crazy religious people that would scream at the students and make their poor children stand there with signs about how we were all going to hell.

If that is the thing that has changed about FSA, I'm ok with it.

James Carville and Ted Shirmer, they caused a few shouting matches.

Actual question, does it not actually exist anymore?

I think you have to register for time now or something. Which means the university can approve or deny you.. meaning not free speech.

ep I was on campus then. It was wild to just walk by and see Duke standing there on the bench talking.

I was there in the early/mid 90's too and went to see Duke.

I also remember the crazy preacher guy that called all the girls sluts and said everyone was going to hell.

ETA: I just read the rest of the comments...I guess everyone remembers the crazy preacher.

If someone is going to go out in public and start yelling about religion, you would think they would be prepared for people yelling at them and would be able to control themselves.

The first time I ever went through free speech alley I think I ended up with like 2 or 3 pocket bibles. One was from the Mormons. I always wondered if any of the people out there yelling their religious bullshite every got into it with each other..

In the late 90s there was some crazy bible thumper guy who would scream at the girls walking by; calling them whores and sluts because of how they were dressed.

I used to sit for hours to watch his antics.

Yes, I used to go in the early and mid 90s. It could be entertaining and informative at times. They had moderators and they would actually get paid by student government. I think a few politicians got their start at FSA.

Old school liberals- yes, liberals- actually believed in and fought for free speech. Today's liberals fight for mass censorship of any dissenting opinion, and are rapidly moving towards totalitarianism.

And most of them seem oblivious that they have become that which they claim to oppose- and will lash out at whoever points it out to them.

Prepare for a rough road ahead.
