Cars being sold without spare tires

I was getting close to purchasing a new car, and at the last minute found out it doesn’t have a spare tire compartment (AWD Sienna). The last car I bought was a 2006 model so I haven’t kept up with the trends, but it looks like over recent years more and more cars are not coming with spare tires. Instead they expect you to use run flat tires or keep tire sealant in the car. Neither of those “solutions” is a solution for a side wall tear. I am baffled that it is even a “thing” to sell cars without spare tires. Just seems stupid.
Has anyone run into this or bought a car without a spare?

Most at least are adding a donut tire as the car's spare.

No one knows how to change a tire any more. Seriously, I have three delivery drivers and only one of them knows how to change a flat. They've called AAA numerous times to change flats on company vehicles.
Also, car manufacturers are doing everything to shed a few pounds for fuel mileage.

Nearly a third of new vehicles no longer come with a spare tire as standard equipment, a percentage likely to increase as automakers seek to reduce weight in cars to improve fuel economy.

A can of fix-a-flat weighs a lot less than that tire

How often do people get flats these days? I have roadside assistance as part of my insurance so I always just figured I would use that if needed.

Some cars, it makes sense for. For instance, if it's a performance car. A full spare would be expensive, it would add weight to the car, and a donut tire would be dangerous, so it can make sense to sell that type of car without a spare.
An Accord, though?

Something about increasing MPG and decreasing weight that isn't imperative to the operation of the vehicle. That and not as many people know how to change a tire (really a wheel) or have the proper equipment to change a tire.

My wife's Accord has a donut. I've changed so many damn tires on that vehicle that I probably need to check the tread on the donut.

My grandfather bought a Fleetwood Caddy for my grandmother back in '84. He found out it had a donut spare tire in it. He brought it back to the dealership pissed off demanding they take it back unless they put a full size spare in it...
They had that new spare in it in 5 minutes...

I was pissed that my spare tire on my brand new truck didn't have a full size spare tire, much less no spare tire.

Being he is looking at an AWD there is a good chance a different tire could cause issues on the AWD and/or traction control.
Tread difference of something like 1/8" is sometimes cautioned against.

You can buy a spare tire kit on Amazon to fit your vehicle.

I felt better about it then than I do now.
