Squats feel great. Think I tweaked a shoulder muscle doing the 4x5 overhead press. I should have done 115-125 and focused on form but I didn’t feel like taking the 45’s off the bar. Hopefully this doesn’t keep nagging throughout the month.

and still can't hold a decent 50% front squat yesterday.

I did exactly 48% and it was ok, but my front shoulders wouldn’t have liked heavier.

Day 2 finished!

Day 3 is done. I realized this morning that I've been calculating my squats off of my e1rm instead of my training max. Decided just to roll with it.

I still suck at tempo squats. I'm happy if half of my 25 reps were actually 5 seconds down.

I feel like AA is using shorter rest times than in the past and in his programs and I like it. I think in most of his programs that I've done he prescribes min 3 minutes for Squats and Deads, I always cut them down. So far I'm using his given rest times and the first 3 days have all been sub 1 hour.

Day 3 is in the books. Another fast paced workout. Pace feels a little better than last year.

Not a fan of the tempo squats either. My knees don't approve.

Farmer's carries were a welcome addition as I don't think I've done any since early spring.

Carries after 10 sets of DLs had my forearms burning pretty good.

Wondering if the first heavy set is tomorrow or Friday.

Day 3 done. Not bad at all.

In regards to the front squats, anyone ever used a safety bar to do them? I saw some clips on IG and someone had the safety bar backwards doing front squats and it got me interested.

Day 3 done. The weight on the tempo felt good.

10 sets of DL’s got to be a lot.

I’ll be ready for a rest day come Saturday

Someone suggested 5 sets of 6, will try that today instead

Day 3 done. Did 6x5 on DL. I hate the feeling that I’m taking too much time on one rack so try to go as fast I can when it’s that many sets squat and DL combined

Farmers walks had my forearms burning at the end

Did 5 sets of 6 with 2 min rest.

I’m a fan of the pace so far.

I saw that exact same clip and thought that too. I wish my gym had one.

I thought a safety bar was more like a front squat anyway. I’ve never used one though.

Man I am (and my legs) tired today. Never sleep great after late pickleball.

Gonna need some preworkout today, but excited for some deadlifts.

Day 3 done!

With the warm up I was at 70min. I always have a hard time picking weights for the warm ups and think I went a little heavy on those. Lower back was a little tight after warmups (which took about 15 min including stretching).

For the squats I read the notes and deliberately took 5-7 seconds on the way down then normal up. I decided to take a few seconds pause at the top on the last few sets. That burn was STRONG.

I did the deadlifts exactly as prescribed in 10x3 with 75s rests. Since my gym reopened and expanded there's 3 racks and 1 smith machine. I'm not worried about hogging a rack. I've never seen more than 2 in use during my workout time.

I don't have any measurements for farmer's walk, so I just grab the DBs and walk ~50 steps in a large circle.

I think the worst part today is my weak grip. Between the deadlifts and farmer's walk (no gloves or straps), my hands are killing me.

Enjoying Squatober so far! Workouts are tough but manageable. It's also helping me get some good sleep at night.

My short sleep last night became obvious really quickly today. I love tempo squats, but as usual, ppsa pushed me waaaay beyond my traditional comfort zone in regards to total reps and rest periods. 5 sets of 5 is a real gut burner, but it feels great afterwards to know you did it. I had to up the rest intervals to 3 minutes, and I'm sure I did a couple sets of 6 in there too as a result of losing count.

Lost count of my sets on deadlift too, I even drew 10 little boxes to check off as I worked through, and I still think I forgot once, maybe twice. Whoops. Oh well, I won't die. Overall, today was very hard and I could feel my energy levels were sucking. Gotta go cook pumpkin pies and eat and then sleep sleep sleeep.

I’m halfway through deads and feeling pretty tired already.

Edit: Day 3 finished in 52 minutes including warmup.

I know 5x5 can feel like a lot when all you do is powerlift but I’d argue that’s a good sign you need to up your conditioning as well.
