Wife wants a small dog. Any experience with these breeds? Are they good with kids and other animals (we’ve got an outdoors cat)?

Dachshunds seem 50/50 on either being great or terrible

Corgi people are weird about their dogs. That's all I got.

I’ve had three Dachshunds. All three were dumb as a box of rocks and impossible to potty train. They are affectionate and were good with my kids, though.

Corgis are great but shed like crazy. Both of them.

I'd get a puggle. Typically, you'll get a cooler looking dog, doesn't shed as much as a corgi (but close), is a bit more rugged and doesn't come with the Pug problems - breathing, drooling, etc. But does get the pug personality.

Pugs shed a lot. Do your research. Look at shitzu or shitzu mixes. No shedding.

Not really a fan of any of them. You should take up hunting and tell your wife you need a real dog.

I've owned 3 wiener dogs and 2 pugs. All of them had different personalities. Both are good breeds for other animals/kids from what I've had

No shedding, but every shitzu I've run across is an a-hole.

I've had three dachshunds and they've all been fantastic dogs. My current one is super chill and very affectionate. They can be a bit stubborn, so potty training can take some patience if you're getting a puppy. And you have to be careful with their backs as far as them jumping from high surfaces and whatnot.

But overall they're great.

This. Our corgi is the best dog we've ever had but you could weave a rug on his shedded hair - daily.

If you've got $1800 to drop get a goldendoodle.

What’s the advantage of getting a goldendoodle instead of a golden retriever for that price? Genuine question. Just shedding?

Why not a Yorkie? Ex-gf had one; it would would crawl up in my lap and fall asleep.

The dog, man, the dog.
