Pugs are shitty dogs in that they require all kids if surgeries etc

We had a Dauschund for 10 years then our first grandson was born and the dog tried to bite him, so we gave him to a relative. My son has a Corgi , he’s a smart dog but sheds a lot . My friend has a Pug and he is one the best dogs I’ve seen, just a super cool companion

I see all 3 of these fairly regularly; my dog enjoys hanging out with all 3. They sniff each others' asses, then pee on things.

No shedding, but every shitzu I've run across is an a-hole.

I used to date a woman who had 7 Shih Tzus over the time I was with her. Only one wasn't 100% sweet. He's wasn't an ahole, just had some issues. 6 out of 7 were great. That's a higher average than humans.

Might be bigger than what you are looking for, but Boston Terriers are awesome. Great personalities, super smart, don’t shed, and great with kids. Not much bigger than a Pug.

Wife wants a small dog. Any experience with these breeds? Are they good with kids and other animals (we’ve got an outdoors cat)?

I had a dachshund for 12 years. She was the best dog ever. Sweet as could be, although stubborn at times. Never barked and extremely friendly with people, dogs and cats. She thought everyone was on this planet just to play with her and pet her.

It really depends on the dog. Some dachshunds can be aggressive and snippy. You also need to be aware of their potential back issues. But if you get a sweet one, that dog will love you and your family more than anything else on the planet.

I assume you are talking about miniature dachshunds (up to 11 pounds) and not standards (more than 16 pounds). Mine was really in between but was considered a miniature.

We loved our pug but they do shed a lot, require a lot of attention especially when young and snore like a drunk old man. Their folds need cleaning fairly regularly and they cannot take the LA heat so you must make sure they don't get too hot. All of that being said, they get along with pretty much anything and are loveable little things. We'll prolly get another as some point.

We had a mini-dox for 15 years, she was an extremely smart dog, outside-trained very quickly, but had separation anxiety. She could and would shite just to show us, even though she KNEW to go to the door, and would even come get us to take her out.

Now have a Corgi with Australian Shepherd. This thing is ACTIVE when I'm over there, he calms down for Mrs. Pop4. But he's a year old, smart, and sheds like nothing I've ever seen. He likes to sneak out and haul arse across the neighborhood. We just go back home, because trying to get him back is a game to him and he tries to herd us all over the block.

He plays with his mouth open, so often my hands get torn up because he goes after my hands.

We’ve had a pug for over 20 years, going on our third one.

I grew up around dogs in the 80s where my aunt would show Dobermans and Collies. Met all sorts of breeds, some of which I’ve still not seen since those days.

Pugs are super kid-friendly and have the best personalities.

Corgis are herding dogs, likes an Aussie on Basset Hound legs. They are smart and energetic. Should be good with kids. I think with all herding dogs, you will typically get a very intelligent animal that you will need to invest time in to socialize and to train, but they learn very quickly and make great companions.

I second this

If you can get past the first year with a corgi pup then it’s pretty easy after that—that’s about how long it took mine to quit going inside and destroying stuff. Mine is two and is still very active. I recommend doing dog day care a few days a week to tired them out come night.

Nope, get a Yorkie (no shedding) or a Great Dane (shedder). Both are awesome family dogs.
