What a fricking joke.
A fricking joke.

Woah, I mean they will eventually have to take it right?
Wrong. They have to get 25 hours of CLE credit and participate in the LA State Bar Association’s “transition into practice program” which they had to do anyway

Family law, criminal defense and plaintiffs personal injury are about to get interesting. I’d love to be an insurance defense lawyer for six months to see what types of pleadings will cross their desk

Close friend of mine got his law license from Costo.

There’s already tons of shady lawyers out there anyway, but at least they earned the right to be shady. Passing the bar is a right of passage, and getting it the easy way is a non-starter imho. I’m sure some of these newbs will go on to be very successful attorneys, great life, yada yada, but I could never see them as a 100% equal. Gotta go through the suck to earn that.

25 hours of online CLE is an entirely meaningless "at least we did something" concession
Yeah. Extra CLE hours are worthless even if they could be done in person. The layperson won't necessarily understand this. It may be different for newly admitted attorneys, but the general requirement is 12.5 hours of CLE. So, they just have to take double continuing legal education hours. Whether taken in person or online, CLE is basically someone speaking. The only requirement is to either be present for a live CLE or have it playing on your computer for online CLE. You don't have to pay attention. There is no test. At CLE's, attendees play video games, check email, look at social media, etc.
Getting some extra CLE is in no way comparable to taking the bar exam. Most of them just got out of law school. They don't need more classes. They need a bar exam to see if they learned enough in those classes.

In my experience the bar exam has nothing to do with what you are taught during your time in law school.

this is totally fricked

I mean This is mostly so a entire class of new attorneys aren’t unemployed till The end of the year.
Unlike you, they never had a chance to take the bar. Your clearly have had decades to do it.

Let’s assume an 80% pass rate, which is on the high end. 500 new lawyers means a legit 100 would not have passed. They just admitted 100 people who are not competent to practice law.
I can’t wait to see the carnage

2019 July Bar Passage Rates
LSU 85.6%
Tulane 78.6%
Loyola 74.8%
Southern 64%
Now everybody graduates and gets in based on precedence of one year during the Korean War.
So now covid is a pandemic that equates to one year during a war.

the supreme court cannot ever argue again that the bar exam is a necessary or prophylactic step. they just invalidated the purpose of the bar exam entirely

Exactly. Was sitting with a law clerk today when the news came out. He interrupted me to tell me that "I'm now a lawyer". I guess I'm happy for him but disappointed that they don't have to endure what we did.
It is a similar feeling as when fraternity hazing was abolished.

I’m not even sure it’s able to be challenged. Equal protection claim in fed court by an applicant who failed and still has to take it? Or someone who graduated in 2018 but hasn’t taken it? Even that seems tenuous

i don't even care about that
if they want to have the bar exam, it has to mean something. if they agree it's OK to randomly rescind the requirement, then it has no meaning
i hope some students who graduated but aren't "qualified" sue for an injunction. that would be glorious.

yeah that's kind of what i just wrote. somebody from this class who isn't "qualified" is getting legit fricked
the LASC has been slapped down by the federal courts recently for their ad rules, so it's possible
this is the problem in granting the LASC all of this power without any oversight
