Set Yourselves Free, Conservatives
quote:
The national conservative movement does very little for the average person while simultaneously laying waste to obscene amounts of our charitable donations and manpower. Wasted resources enervate the cause, but far greater damage is inflicted upon the soul of conservatism by the misdirection Conservatism, Inc. forces by ceaselessly redirecting the everyman’s gaze away from his neighbors toward national troubles and national ruin, national initiatives and national scandal. Reform will not happen nationally. Reading articles and posting on Facebook is not political action. It’s not going to work to have a well-paid team of intellectuals and advocates shout into the ether about this country’s lost promise and eternally-threatened constitutional republic.

I don’t trust Trump to do anything other than keep the other side busy while I continue to build, and run interference for me with the people who want to make it illegal to be a religious small-government conservative. That’s all. That’s the grand bargain that rose up to replace the Grand Narrative—not just for me, but for millions and millions of citizens.
Decent little missive.
Local action can make huge differences. We have witnessed that over and over these past few months.

Cold anger. The silent majority are wide awake. As well as a lot of Trumpocrats.
It isn't just boomers.
Your OP is what is wrong in this country. Ya'll are living in a bubble; you just think we are all old and dumb, while you are full of stupidity, and prog filth cum.

The "national conservative movement" elected Trump. And if Trump don't get it done...they have gunned up, and with each passing day/outrage (defund the Police, move Urban heathen into stable God-fearing communities, etc.)...they are building up pressure to take non-political action. And when Rule of Law breathes it's last breath...they will. But no particular and calculated action will begin this (reactionary) enterprise; like the 'Arab Spring or Syrian war'...it'll be some normal and mundane event that breaks the dam.
Could be when Israel assassinates Assad, and Russia jumps in...or when some innocent Church group is slain by BLM/Antifa Anarchists.
We can't "set ourselves free"...events will.

Not my job to provide for anyone but my family. The average person should step their game up.

Boomers are hippies from the 70’s generation. Think Pelosi, Biden, RBG, etc... I’ll agree most Boomers are actually dogshit, right along with BigSalmons Millennials are cut from the same cloth.
Now, what was it you said again?

It's not bad but you probably picked the worst excerpt to represent the article.

Never heard of her, as in the author

The article is good in it's recommendations but it is not an either or decision, to focus on the local as opposed to the national. In fact in the world we live in Conservative should also focus on the international and also make outreach to conservatives throughout the world.
I think your title sucks however and shows no understanding of the Conservative movement. It was conservative boomers who did precisely this in the 1970s and 1980s. Congress began tho change and Reagan was elected because of grass roots efforts, there are a lot of unsung behind the scenes conservative boomers out there who started all of this.
But remember the Republican Party is big tent and the Bushes and corporate interests of the Party began to talk a conservative message but governed just as expected, and small grass roots initiatives became big money foundations (Heritage) or even massive networks (Fox News).

You clearly have zero idea of how much government controlled EVERYTHING in the early 60's with prices capped on transportation, steel, oil, gas, etc... The fact it that because of conservatives we were freer overall by the time of Obama than we were in 1970.
You can thank conservatives for all of that, little boy

Hard to get better after that.

Are you saying Boomers are Conservative?
Posted on 7/12/20 at 11:31 am to BigSalmon
Some younger folks think the Boomer moniker is a pejorative. Nope! I like it! Boomers are the folks you whining millennials, Gen XYZ'ers hope don't spend all the inheritance y'all think you're entitled to.

Well, that's silly. Wasting resources doesn't help enervation. Henry Ford saw the waste of burned wood and so he came up with the enervation of charcoal.

That was a lot of words to basically say nothing. I would have preferred you have said frick you, I could say right back at you and I could go get a beer and you could go do whatever silly fools like you do when you aren't posting nonsense.

I'm no longer a Republican, so, as the Republican Party defines the term "Conservative", I doubt that they would consider me to be one of their Conservative supporters.
These are Revolutionary Times. The old terms "Liberal" and "Conservative" no longer have any meaning, IMHO.

Federal issues are important because our federal government has grown so large and intrusive that local and state governments often have to operate with a hand tied around their back due to federal regulations and funding from the feds that always come with strings.
At the same time, I agree with the article’s premise that conservatives would be wise to place a greater emphasis on local issues. All politics is local, and local races and issues have a huge hand in driving turnout. If conservatives can improve their ability to govern and sell small government ideas at the local level, then they will enjoy better turnout that will help elect more conservatives to Congress, the Senate, and the White House.
This is one of the reasons I started getting involved in local politics. Too often, in cities, Republicans just assume no one will listen and that they have no power, when they have far more than they know to influence public opinion and policy. Just look at the Monroe Mayoral election yesterday. Conservatives showed up to elect an independent mayor in a city that’s 65% black democrats with an incumbent black mayor.
Republicans need to show that they can govern at the local level, and in doing so, they will grow their bench of candidates, widen their coalition of voters, and increase their gains up the chain of federalism to more electoral victories at the federal level.
Finally, logic should inform your arguments, but it cannot be your only argument. Logic should form your philosophy and policies, but policies are sold with emotion. The logical side of the brain is not what makes decisions. Decision-making is made by the emotional part of the brain which houses the fight/flight decision center. Logic is used to inform, but emotion is how you sell. You don’t sell statistics, you sell safety and fear. You don’t sell process, you sell justice.
The left wins because they cannot use logic in an argument. They’re arguing for illogical policies with illogical outcomes, so they perfect the art of emotional manipulation. Republicans try too hard to sway people with logic without conveying any real feelings to graft it to. Because people feel a greater emotional connection to the left’s position, in the ballot box, even if the logic for the right seems more solid, more times than not, they will pull the lever for the side which gave them a greater emotional connection.
