My daughter (no pics) got zero help from UF. Her Latino classmates with a lesser GPA and parents that are high earners got full rides. They all got Bright Futures (FL equivalent of TOPS) Once you counted private scholarships, my daughter's is mostly paid for. The Latino kids made money. One bought a new Camry with the extra money.
My daughter used to think white privilege is real until she saw how it actually works. When she graduates, the Boosters will hit her up for money.

Another neat attribute of this phenomenon are white people like the author who not only do not live around other races, but REFUSE to do so. Then, they have the audacity to call those of us who are the minority in the south "Racist".
The Wal Mart less than a mile from my house proves this statement false. Why? Because we actually LIVE in a diverse area.

Because historically, the police are accustom to having to deal with them resisting arrest. I bet, if starting today, they 100% stopped resisting arrest, within a year, they would be treated differently by the police.

In reality, at least in my region, literal backpacks and most of the materials inside are given away freely on an annual basis just before school begins, and not to white children.

My great great grandparents immigrated from Ireland & landed in Boston. Where the Irish were looked down as poor, illiterate trash. Family research & passed down history reflects that my great great grandfather worked 3 jobs, my great great grandmother working as a maid while raising 3 children.Generations later, my family is considered successful by any standard. Their skin color was white. Wanna guess how many of their children/descendants even owned a "backpack"? Nah, my kids were educated as to how important hard work & discipline are in striving for a successful life. Where did this term originate? White liberals, right?
