Results in 4,125 for a full 15 per semester. Fees are gone.

Schools include: Grambling, La Tech, McNeese, Nicholls, NWSU, SELU, ULL, ULM, UNO

quote:

The tuition change is almost a 45% decrease in price, Henderson said. The move is part of the UL System's "Compete Louisiana" initiative, which aims to boost the percentage of Louisianans with a college degree from 44.2% to 60% by 2030.

quote:

The lowering of tuition will also lower tuition revenue in school budgets, but Henderson said the program is "not a loss of revenue in any way." He said it's designed to improve the system's revenue from a business perspective. The program, Henderson said, is designed to make more students into workers in Louisiana, growing the number of taxpayers, and help the revenue growth in the state.

So the Advocate has updated the story since they originally posted it.

quote:

Tuition prices for regular students remain unchanged, and the Compete Louisiana students must meet three qualifications to receive the lower tuition rate: they must be a Louisiana resident, have earned some college credit but no degree, and they must be out of school for at least two years.

(Editor's Note: This story was updated to include the student qualifications for these tuition cuts.)

While I like the idea a lot, at the end of the day it falls on the legislature to create a competitive and diverse job market in the state to stop the brain drain.

Good course change, but it won’t change the business climate in LA or help to generate jobs that do not exist.

It may just result in more people going to ULL.

This is a brilliant move and one that will actually lead these universities in a sphere of huge enrollment gains. Kudos for the forward thinking leadership there.

Really good move. Now if all schools would eliminate the shitty electives to pad the tuition cost and reduce a degree to core curr at 90 hours, they would be very much commended.

If they really want to help enrollment a few of those schools should be consolidated.

ETA: and stop killing kids financially for useless degrees.

Still $30K+ to get a degree from ULL, McNeese, etc

That's about $29,995 too much

Here is your damn problem. We have WAY too many damn schools. We should cut them down to LSU BR, LSU Shreveport, UNO and maybe ULL. Why is it that LA refuses to eliminate all these institutions?

I'm wondering where they're getting these numbers. No way 44% of Louisianans have a college degree.

The tuition isn't the same for every school in the UL system. Some of them are already less than $4125/semester.

The three qualifications for the price change are being a Louisiana resident, some college credit but no degree and out of school for at least two years.

This thread missed a big update to the story.

When I started college in 2003, UL’s tuition was $1700 a semester/$3400 a year! I feel old.

Only applies to adults who have been out of state for a period of time. Laughable at best.

according the the SELU website, current tuition & fees for 12 hours:

quote:

$4,382.70

under the $275 per credit, $3300

but 15 hours = $4`125 not much savings

120 credit hours = $33k
