3 pm, sunny day, no wind, power goes out.

Couple of min later get a text, saying back on by 530 pm.

Talking and investigating finds out they are replacing power poles that broke during the rainstorm that came through Tuesday night. Great. But why are they doing this at 3 pm on a Thursday? And why can't they let people know ahead of time they are cutting off power to do the work?

Absolutely no customer service. Yay monopolies!

I'm glad we have Demco. I've always found them to be a good bit cheaper.

Don’t think the alternative is feasible with public utilities.

This is why I love living in an area with buried power lines. I think in the 5.5 years we've been here the power has gone out just once and that was for only 5-ish minutes.

Baton Rouge Water cut off my water because my neighbor had an overdue account that neither he nor I nor anyone knew existed.

It's probably the closest I have ever come to just losing it with customer service.

Kind of a tangent here, but after Katrina my street didn't have power for the longest time, even though every other street in my neighborhood did. I lived on a cul-de-sac that was kind of tucked away, so I wasn't surprised that Entergy missed it.

Me and my neighbors kept calling them, and the normal reply was "Sir, we are getting to as many streets as possible in an orderly manner. If you don't have power yet, we will get to you as soon as we can."

We would tell them than every other street had power, and that their trucks just happened to miss ours.

Anyway, I had a crazy neighbor I called Drill Sergeant because he wore one of those Marine drill instructor hats all the time. I'm not sure if he was ever in the military.

Well, old Sarg had had enough. He saw an Entergy truck a few streets away, grabbed 5 cases of beer, and jumped in his truck. He showed the linemen the beer and said "You guys thirsty? Well follow me," and lead them back to our street.

The power was on within the hour.

They should have given some notice. The more the better.

As for the schedule, that’s hard to plan, I’m sure there was a lot of storm damage. Many probably don’t have power. Entergy is probably working as best they can and is working as efficiently as possible.

I don’t see any issue with working any time during daylight.

I haven't left my office during the day in weeks. I leave today for 2 hours, get a notification from my alarm system that the power is off.
I get back to see a little Entergy van in my parking lot who zooms off as soon as I pull up. Power is back on though. No idea why he left so quickly.
3rd world problem: I had to reboot my computer and an access point.

Dunno, couple years back power was shut down for the majority of southern California for about 8 hours by a dude in Arizona who hit the wrong switch.

You gotta go legend before you can claim worst in the country.

We've had that happen but a car took out a pole so ... I couldn't really complain. Driver had to be airlifted to a trauma center.

Ours gets knocked out three or four times a year when squirrels hit a transformer. We usually hear them blow when this happens. A few months ago they put some mesh covers over the wires leading to them, and the transformers. I'm assuming those are to keep them out.

Install a generator that cuts on automatically when the power goes,or get backup batteries for you xbox or whatever you were playing.

I'm sure people were aware these repairs were going to be made and a short inconvenience is worth long term stability during bad weather.

The power companies are overwhelmed this time of year.

I was hoping to find a thread with facts and statistics. Nope. Just one anecdote from somebody who lives in an area prone to severe weather.
