I’m still working but my biggest problem is not being able to go inside my moms nursing home. It’s on my mind 24/7

The thing about social distancing is that if you do it right, it makes it the virus seem not that bad. The projections were 2 million dead if we had done nothing.

That's a counterfactual, so we'll never know what would have happened. But I, for one, am happy that we'll never know.

Open it up May 1. If you choose to go out, you sign a waiver that says you knew the risk and are not allowed to take up hospital beds. Take your chances.

Not advocating against opening things back up, but i think a lot of people don’t realize it’s still going to be bad for a long time

I agree. It's going to be awhile before people start feeling comfortable resuming normal activities.

Same for me. Only difference is instead of being out in a pickup truck all day everyday I’m working from home.

Yeah but NOLA is exactly the type of place that could get immediately overburdened again if things are opened up too soon. No offense, but it's not somewhere that I think will govern itself very well. I'm not advocating for more government overreach, but I do think it's wise for a place like NOLA to get numbers really really low for itself and for places where people who come to NOLA live before trying to even gradually reopen.

This.

I firmly believe NOLA would get assblasted by COVID again (maybe even worse) if the government lifted all restrictions tomorrow and just asked people to continue to be responsible. The re-opening needs to be gradual.

Enough to where people with symptoms, or have been around someone with symptoms, can go to their primary doc and get a test, and get results relatively quickly.

Then that is an unfortunate reality.

I don't think anyone can really say because there is so many unknowns about this virus right now. Why does it rapidly spread in certain communities, and not others? Why does it target certain demographics and not others? Why do some people never show symptoms while testing positive for it, while others show rapid increase in symptoms from the first sign of symptoms?

Yep.

Need to have several days of declining cases across the country to open back up in phases (very limited). It starts to rise again, shut it back down.

We can't risk overwhelming hospitals/medical facilities. If we do, the economy will be the least of your worries.

Re-open immediately and let free people use the information available to make the best decisions for themselves and their family.

Yeah, people have shown that they have no chance of behaving responsibly with this shite. That wasn't surprising or anything, but this whole "Let the public handle it their own way," line of thinking is just absurd to me.

IMO - we are probably still a week or so from the national peak. Let's get through that and then talk about a gradual re-opening while keeping immuno-compromised citizens in mind as best we can.

Still need a lot more testing and tracking before we can know where we are and how much/quickly we can return to "normal".

Can we also make people who purchase alcohol and/or cigarettes, drive fast cars, bungee jump, skydive, swim with sharks, operate vehicles, etc.....sign a similar waiver?

What about for those who don’t show up to work on May 1st and are fired can’t file for unemployment or receive government benefits?

Of course not, dumb fricking post.

I think we stay status quo for another 10 days. If the trends continue we start opening back up gradually. Still minimizing anything or anywhere with large crowds and keep our nursing homes and elderly quarantined another 60 days.

Open it up.

Keep fighting with reasonable social distancing and hand washing. Keep fighting for validating any effective treatements. Ge the vaccine to market.

But, for God's sake let's get back to work.

I think we should see how this week goes before making any rash decisions. I want everything open again, but I want to make sure we don’t cause a surge we can’t control.

As much as it sucks for those of us tired of WFH, I think it'll be key for large companies and others that are well equipped to do WFH to allow that to continue for months.
