If you had to fight in WW2- Europe or Pacific

I often thought about that. I’m a big history buff about WW2. I would have to say Europe.
First off it would be a pleasure to take out some nazis. The cold was brutal no doubt and the battles were also. However for the most part, the nazis treated American POWs somewhat decent. They considered us somewhat equals.
The Pacific was no doubt brutal as hell also. The tropics diseases, heat and smell of death had to be unbearable. There was no mercy in the pacific on either end, those crazy bastards wouldn’t surrender knowing death was imminent and would go out swinging. They treated POWs terribly because it was a disgrace to surrender.
I would rather fight an enemy that knows when to give up and won’t blow themselves up in one last attempt to kill us.
So tired of the virus discussion so wanted to change it up a bit. What do y’all say?

Europe any time of the day.

The Western Front was child’s play compared to the Pacific.

European Theater, 100%. The Wermacht adhered to the Geneva Convention when it came to the treatment of POWs, administration of medical help, and the fact that the troops themselves were civilized.
I want nothing to do with the Pacific. My grandfather was on Iwo Jima as a Navy Corpsman. Landed on D-Day and spent 21 days on the island with 1st Btn/28th Marines before being pulled back to the beach to help with triage and eventually onto the USS Mercy where he provided care until shipping back to Hawaii. He turned 18 in June of '45, 3 months later.
I remember my grandmother telling me never to touch him if I needed to wake him up; she would only have to say his name and he would pop right up.
The nightmares haunted him. The stories he told me when I was 18-20ish haunt me to think about.

I would have wanted no part of the Pacific Theater. I believe I would have done much better in the cooler climate of Europe rather than the heat and the crazy Japs.

Anyone that says the frontlines in the pacific doesn’t know their history

Depends, Europe I think was a better place to be, but it was super super cold for some parts.
As far as I know the Pacific was absolute hell, which is why we decided to drop nukes.

My great uncle fought in the Pacific and used to tell me about it when I was a kid. He had a pretty brutal experience.
I'd opt for Europe even if just for being around more similar cultures.

My WWII Era folks fought in both theaters; most made it back to build my relatives. My military background mostly involved Europe and skill set geared towards it, so I gotta go with what I know.

quote:Yes, sorry. That's a fair point. The wrath and brutality the German Army Groups brought to the civilian populace as well as the Russian Army while invading the Soviet Union was repaid exponentially when the Russians arrived inside the German borders.
