Pretty sure the only answer is Europe.

Great uncle was a jeep driver at Pearl.
Even he didn't talk about it.
The Pacific in general was some bad shite.

Real question for would be:

Or

Fight for Soviets against Germany

Europe. There weren’t a lot of women around but there were some and the locals loved them some Americans.

Plus it was likely less brutal fighting.

Do you know which campaigns he was involved in?

Okinawa and some place called Biak (sp) and a few others. He was a marine.

My grandfather fought in Europe. He died a few years ago. Lived until almost 100.

Christ. And most likely only a kid while he was there.

If you haven't and are interested, Eugene Sledge's book "With the Old Breed" is something to behold.

Europe all day. Had one grandfather there and he romanticized the war and don’t think they saw all that much comparatively. Another grandfather was a marine Sargent in the pacific and he never said much but we can piece together he went through an absolute hellish experience as only like 6-7 of his original company from 42’ came back unscathed. Just absolute meat grinder over there against an enemy that would never surrender. I’m fascinated by ww2 and wish my marine grandfather wouldn’t have died before I could find out more.

My granddad fought in Europe (D-Day and Battle of Bulge). He went through a lot, saw a lot of bodies piled up, etc.

My great uncle fought in Pacific and was killed by a sniper so I have no stories from him. I know my grandmother hated Japs because of it.

As for me, I guess I'd rather be in Europe. As others said, I think the Germans were a bit more civilized as far as combat and POW's went. Although landing at the beach at D-day was almost a death sentence with all the machine gunning. My granddad landed at Normandy and talked about how people were just being mowed down.

depends on which beach you hit. Sounds like your granddad landed on Omaha which was a slaughter at first. But Utah was not nearly as rough. Comparatively speaking, of course

Europe. My dad was in the Anerical Division. Started at New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, New Hebrides, Tinian. He caught dysentery, malaria. He would have malaria flare up bout every 2 years. Would turn yellow. Prescribed hydochloroquine. He said it was beyond miserable. He spoke french. From Avoyelles Parish. Dont know why he wasnt sent to europe. Europe all the way.

Europe without a doubt. Allied bombing raids and the eastern front had taken the edge off the German sword by the time the allies invaded. Not saying it was in anyway easy.

Fighting in the Pacific was pure hell. Japanese were a totally insane enemy with no mercy or human decency.
