I think about what TP, and now the Advocate, have become, all the bullshite that TP has been spewing for years and what the editors have allowed to pass as "journalism", the TDS, the buzzfeed quality garbage, the election coverages, the incessant race baiting, Jarvis, Bob Mann, Stephanie Grace and the rest of the clowns, and you know I just can't seem to locate any spare change at the moment.

I'm not clear on what this has to do with the corona however. Seems like in general not enough people are willing to pay for what they are selling.

Why would this incident impact newspapers? Or is this just a coincidence that it happened now?

I haven’t read the Advocate since 2011. This is not a great indicator for my generation and local news.

Papers in general are really struggling. Times get tough and the first thing businesses cut is advertising.

Plus the sports section is a big revenue generator for the local papers and with no sports being played there's nothing to sell around.

ETA: There's also no events to advertise.

What? Where are their buddies JBE, Better Together, Sharon Broome, Latoya Cantrell, the EBRCOA, and any other number of shysters they carried water for? I'm SHOCKED that there's no help coming from them in these trying times!

FUUUUUUUUCK them.

Is there anything more useless than a newspaper in the age of the internet? Yesterday's news, today. What a business model.

This.

I was a sports editor at a paper with a circulation around 20K two years ago and was laid off. They didn’t even replace me. Just went to local contributors for the local university and high school sports.

It’s a horrendous business to get into if you don’t know somebody at a big publication or network.

I thought it was a joke.

Does John Georges still own The Advocate? He has deep pockets and should be ashamed if he has his hand out.

Newspapers were a solid investment back in the day with advertising, classifieds, and obits being a reliable source of income, but not anymore.

Even The Oracle of Omaha sold a bunch of newspapers not too long ago. In regards to newspapers, the writing has been on the wall for a long time.

I am not sure when they stopped being objective in reporting stories (or if they ever were) but I would prefer to not pay to read the stories with their personal bias and get all of my news (as I have for the last 10 years) from TD. Sorry, but the real value of a journalist without an agenda has been lost in our society.

It’s so beautiful that more and more people see the Advocate for what it is.
