Serious questions about the "millions of us already had/recovered from this" theory

My girlfriend's daughter is a nurse in Baldwin County, AL and is convinced that Covid-19 has been with us since at least last December. She said that they have seen and know of countless people in the Mobile/Baldwin area that had flu like symptoms with unusually dry unproductive heavy smoker type coughs that lasted for many days after they recovered and the vast majority of these cases tested negative for the flu. She said that they had a handful of hospitalizations back then with people complaining of these weird "flu like" symptoms but from people testing negative for the flu and the doctors describing it as "a new strain of virus going around this season"
I (mid 40s) had what I thought was the flu back in early December and again in early February that at the very beginning started with the typical raw sore throat that quickly subsided. It then had a fever, was very tired, had a bloated "tight" feeling in both lower and upper chest with mild chest tightness, minor to mild shortness of breathe, minor aches, some sneezing, very forceful and relentless dry cough to the point of throwing up on occasion but with nothing to throw up, some nasal drainage, but I never got to the point I usually do with the many colds I've had in the past where I would typically start hocking up big loogies at some point. Had these symptoms both times. Had a short episode once during both "colds" where I woke up with my heart racing for a couple of minutes before subsiding. I even had some mild wheezing which I've never experienced previously during the last time in early February. The most unusual symptom both in early December and again in early February was that after the 4 or 5 days of flu like symptoms were gone and I felt much better and went back to work I still had a annoying dry cough with no other symptoms that persisted from early December all the way until mid February about 2 weeks after my second "cold" ended in early February.
There were at least a handful of people where my girlfriend's daughter works that were going to the hospital as a precaution due to the forceful dry unproductive cough and occasional asthma like shortness of breathe even back in December and January. Because there was no Covid test at the time and these people were all testing negative for the flu almost all the people coming in were given steroid shots and a Z-pack and told to rest and recover at home which they did.
What is the medical world's opinion on the thousands and more likely millions of Americans who had these unusual symptoms I had dating back to December and even early February with regards to coronavirus? Is it possible all the people back in Dec and Jan who had these symptoms couldn't have been from Covid or do the experts know for sure it's only been in the U.S. since mid January at the absolute earliest?

Media didn’t report this, can’t be true.

Also: I recall over the winter if you were over a certain age you got the 'senior' version of the flu shot. Which was to be stronger (better)

Was there an inordinate amount of folks, especially the elderly flocking to the hospitals or dying?

I would think that its absence from nursing homes until January in Washington would argue against that. Same for cruises. And conventions.

Think about this for a minute.
If millions of us "already had this and recovered", the graph of new cases discovered would look like what?
And as testing was ramped up even further it would look like what?
...what does it actually look like?

Early reports out of New York’s testing show that over 90% of the people tested that thought they had it tested negative. Part of the problem with testing and lack of supplies is the strain on the system based on mitigation initiatives. Too many resources allocated to testing people that don’t have it.
You probably had a cold (which I think is also a Coronavirus)

I don't believe that to be the case. I went back to Missouri for Christmas and it was passed around my family, including my dad. He is 77 years old and is on daily chemo maintenance medication. He felt sick for a few weeks but I'm convinced if it was the Chinese flu, he would have been laid up in the hospital.

Its called COVID 19 as in it was around in 2019.

As has been said before the exponential rate of growth points against this.
Also if this was here since December, we would have more people infected them and this the rate of spread would be blunted.
I think we can say that is not true.

I’ve posted ad nauseam on here so I’ll abbreviate it. I had a non-flu respiratory-only illness in mid-January unlike anything I’ve ever had before and I’m 54. So did a co-worker and he’s 56. It took him 6 weeks to clear it out and I still am clearing out my chest.

I had the flu the last 2 weeks in January and landed in the ER for ddehydraition. Tested negative but the doctor just blew it off and said 25% of people are testing negative for the flu this year even though it's clear they have the flu. I definitely had the China Virus.

Similar presentation, prodromes, and symptoms for various viral infections is one of the challenges in CV19 diagnosis. Another is any source of fever, combined with pollen-related allergy.
I've heard many accounts of early season URI's imitating CV19. IMO imitation is the key word. Just as your 2 illnesses seemed similar, but would have been caused by different viruses.

I had what was diagnosed as Bronchitis in February. Same symptoms

This doesn't make sense to me because at the rate we know this virus spreads...hospitals would have been slammed months ago instead of right now.

I've said it multiple times on here but my wife and youngest son were both sick as shite with dry, unproductive cough, high fevers, and tested negative for influenza but discharged and treated for "unspecified viral infections".
This was January into February and the son was first, lasted about three weeks, then as he was recovering the wife got the exact same symptoms. Two others of us in the house, and we never had any symptoms of anything at all, even slightly.
This shite has been here. Mass antibody tests need to be done soon and reported to the CDC. The truth will come out. I'm personally 99% positive in my gut that it has already cycled through my household.

my nurse-daughter says her clinics also saw similar symptoms back in December..... negative flu tests, too.

I went and got tested for strep and the flu in December when I was running a fever with a sore throat and both was negative. Gave me a steroid shot and sent me on my way. Lasted about a week.

I work in healthcare and have the same theory. We experienced the same things, as far back as November.
